Xenon Lights

Featured Replies

Looking to buy bulbs for the dip headlights( not the " flash lights") are these easy to fit and how long do they last.

Do you have Xenons???

There are threads here for this. Basically you have to remove the bumper if you have them!!!

IN A WORD. DONT!! Get the dealer to do it!!

I'm guessing you mean the +50% bulbs and you do not own HID(Xenon) headlamps. These are not difficult to do although they are a bit fiddly, especially by the battery bay. The diesel filter gets in the way on the offside if you own a diesel model too, but again they are do-able without too much effort.

If your car has Xenon lights, the headlamps will have to be removed. The problem with this is that there is a lip on the bottom that catches the bumper preventing removal so the bumper has to come off and adds about 1/2 hour to the time.

Hi

The bulbs should last well if you buy decent quality ones. I recently fitted Osram Silverstar bulbs to good effect. See the link below for a write up.

Fitting (on the vRS) was really pretty easy as long as you dont have very large hands. For this, I removed the front of the battery box cover (about half a minute) and had both dipped and mains changed both sides, bonnet down and hands washed in around 10 minutes. Remember to look at the way up the bulb is when you remove the old one, and the new ones should slot in the same position. They are held in place by sprung wire clips.

IMPORTANT NOTE. When changing or handling the bulbs, do not let your skin come into contact with the bulb glass envelope. Handle it by the metal base only. If you get a skin grease spot on the glass, at best it will evaporate and dull the reflector, at worst it will carbonise and potentially shatter the bulb.

Just checked the manual and it says D2S Xenon headlight for the dipped beam, what is this??, and when I fit the bulbs do I have to check the headline setting with my dealer. How much would a dealer charge to fit Xenon lights.

You dont have these (D2S Xenon)

H7 is main beam. Dont know what standard dipped lights are (H3??)

You cannot get Xenons retro fitted. They are a factory option @ £500. I suspect you mean Fake Xenon bulbs available fro Halfords. The dealer will fit these for you. But charge you £40 to do it!!

Just to confirm I want Xenon lights for the dip lights ( which you use every night and not the top " flash lights") so you are saying get H3 bulbs Osram Silverstar or likewise.

When it comes to this kind of thing guys i am not very good so thanks for your time.

Bought some Osram Silverstar H7 on e bay so will keep you informed how things go.

the H7 fitment is the right bulb for the dipped beam, so you have bought the right ones, but.. i think you are confusing the term Xenon.

Your dont have Xenon lights on your car, these are a factory fitted option which cost 500 pounds. However it is possible to buy 'xenon' effect replacment bulbs. These are normal standard bulbs (H7) but have a blue tint to the glass houseing around the filliment, thus making the light have a slight blue appearance.

The Osram Silverstar are not Xenon effect. However they claim to be 50% brighter than standard bulbs due to the use of xenon gass in the bulbs. Not to be confused with 'Factory fitted propper Xenon lights'

Hope that helps to clear things up.

Nah, they can be changed without removing the headlamp or bumper. You just need to be double jointed & have a lot of patience! :D;)
