List of Mk1 Fabia estate modding musings :)

Featured Replies

Hello everyone. A super-nooby here! I seem to have caught the rear bug known as: Skodaitis :)

I really fancy picking up a 1.9 TDI variant for the Mk1 Fabby Estate, and ditching the PCP'd Hyundai I have at the moment, but you naughty devils have turned my head with all the modding you have done on the titchy estate, so I need some pointers.

Very sorry if these questions have been asked before (Might help someone else, if they're all in one place.......) I'm sure I've forgot a few - I'll add the others when the penny drops!

  1. What 'static' lowering kit (shox and springs) would you all suggest for everyday use? (I do a LOT of town driving and have a baby on the way!)
  2. Are there any decent uprated brake kits available for the 1.9 estate? (My friend got four grooved and drilled rotors and Mintex pads for his MX5 for £135 off ebay - is there anything similar around?)
  3. How hard is it to colour code the front grill on a Mk1?
  4. How hard is it to colour code interior trim? (Such as heater vents and radio surround etc)
  5. What sizes are the Skoda badges (front and back) on the Mk1? (As I'd like to install the newer version on the Skoda logo.....)
  6. Is it hard to fit a double DIN headunit in a Mk1?
  7. Can anyone suggest some good wind deflectors for the estate?
  8. I'd like some number plate surrounds, as I want a set of pressed metal ones - I've bought these before (for my Mk2 Golf) and they were poor quality........
  9. Where can I find some custom-fitted 'logo'd' floor mats for a good price?
  10. Is it hard/costly to paint/wrap the roof in gloss black (a'la the newer Skodas......)
  11. What other mods would you suggest?

Where's the best place to go for insurance for a modded estate? (I'll need business use, as well - one saving grace, I'm 38 next month!)

Many, many thanks in advance :)

Thanks for the reply. As I put in the post, having everything in one place might help others - sorry I've annoyed you ;(

You've not annoyed me :)

Do you realise how many differing opinions and answers you'll get from just one of your eleven questions?

Like I said, try the search function first.

Right, I've had a look around using the search function, and found only three Mk1 estate modding threads:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/277705-hi-from-mk1-fabia-estate-owner/

And

and

Are there any other ones? (which are quite recent!) Sorry for being a donut ;)

Thanks for the reply, pastie. It'll be nice to see a few pictures of your Fabby estate. How's it to drive? What coilovers did you fit?

Soz,i forgot pics.
I spent the evening taking the door apart to prop the window up with a broom handle, turns out the regulator **** itself,
Other than this it drives lovely but will need a new steering rack soon.
Coilovers are KW v1,not too stiff for coilovers but still quite hard on my local roads

1.8T swap!

Can't think of his name but there is a chap with a Fabia Estate in the project threads that has changed to the 1.8 engine. A great read too.

Silly me! That's a nice Fabby, Tech1e. How did you smooth out the bumpers? Can you remove all of the rubbing strips (even the ones with parking sensors in) so they can be colour-coded? Many thanks :)

EDIT: How did you gloss black the roof? I love that look on a MK1 estate.......

Edited by GeneralDogsbody

They are vRS bumpers, no rubbing strips to remove. I painted the roof gloss black.

Thanks again for your help, Tech1e. Is it hard to remove rubbing strips/parking sensor for painting? And how did you paint the roof? Was it hard to do? (Black's such a pain to get a good finish with......)
