Off-centre steering wheel?

Featured Replies

My steering wheel in my SE L Exec is rarely centred on a straight line. It seems to be heavily influenced by road camber but almost always is slightly to the left even on a flat road. It also doesnt seem to have an obvious 'wheels dead ahead' position in the steering feel. The weird thing is that the SIII hire car that I had for 2 months before getting my own also felt exactly the same. Between the two I also drove a new Passat for a couple of months and that had a very centred steering wheel which would almost spring back to dead centre; the superb on the other hand doesn't seem to know where its dead centre/wheels dead ahead are. Is this normal?

The steering on mine can be described as 'vague' in the dead ahead position but as the electro-hydraulic power steering and lane assist is permanently active it's hard to tell. I guess I'm used to it now and the car doesn't wander at all and it does go straight with the wheel centred.
