Nortons Renewal

Featured Replies

Thought some of you might be interested in this.

It's that time of year when my parent's Nortons subscription is up for renewal. I took my dad through the process this evening and having noticed that Nortons 2004 no longer has tech support offered for it  he decided he would upgrade to the 2006 version. I suggested the box product was better than the download just in case he had to reinstall it at some point (two of my colleagues have had to do a reinstall Nortons 2005 over the past few months when an automatic update left them unable to access the internet!).

Once VAT and delivery was factored in the price was over

Your parents have been lucky Neil. My experience of Norton is horrendous. But as they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Do Norton's also say, if it is broke, don't fix it...

my expierence with Norton's is that they have the most unhelpful customer care and the programme generally conflicts with pretty much every other programme on the system!:thumbdwn:

You're being smarmy but since it's xmas i'll not retort

the worst PC I ever had to sort out had Norton and AOL installed. Nightmare combination.

We have NIS installed on 2 PCs and a laptop. I now buy the OEM unboxed version on eBay and look to pay circa

If you're renewal is due and you're planning an upgrade have a look around at the usual online retailers as you might save some money by not going direct.

I know other anti-virus software is available and that Nortons has as many detractors as fans - it's just what my parents are used to.

I have just ( early December ) renewed my subscription for Norton 2003......

and have been using norton since 2000 without any problems .......

beware if you are still using w98se like me ........ norton 2006 dont work on W98se

or so says the website ........so together with Norton / Zone alarm freebee firewall

and bt internet ..... I have been virus free since computing 1992 ..... maybe one reason

is I always download the latest virus definitions every weekend and have never used

MS e-mail prog ....... always Eudora

Arrh thanks johnny, that's very festive of you! :D

I quite like the earlier antivirus versions, 2002, 2003 but find the later ones a bit bloated. A friend let me try NIS 2006 before I decided to buy it and I had to uninstall it as it slowed my whole machine down so much.

Can anyone recommend a virus checker with a smaller overall footprint in both size and resource wise other than Nortons? I use Zonealarm pro for my firewall plus the usual Addaware SE, Spybot Search and destroy and ccleaner so am only really after a virus program not the whole 'take over my machine' package like NIS.

Try AVG antivirus!

We have Sophos Antivirus in work costing an absolute fortune but it's apparently the best out there. I installed AVG on my computer a while back and it makes Sophos look amateur. It also picks up viruses quicker and more reliably than Sophos. Now the company has decided to dump Sophos and license AVG on all the machines instead with an 80% cost saving. I wouldn't be without AVG and it's free for the 1st year too.

Got Nortons on all our computers here and have to say not a single problem. Been using it for 3 years in a row now.
