Tracking.....how Often

Featured Replies

How often should you get your tracking done (i.e. wheel alignment).

I got my RS serviced at 5000. (I know I should have waited until 10k). But what the hell. That was in late July and I had the tyres balanced and tracked also. Doesn't appear to be much wear on the tyres and I have 8,500 miles up now. Car is 14 months old.

Also, I found that when I bought the car it drifted to the left which I learned was a characteristic of a lot of VAG cars. Friends Octavia does it also. Brought it to our local tyre outfit who said the tracking was out. But went back to the dealer who checked it and said everything was fine. Turns out alot of tyre fitters do not have the tracking program for the vRS and tend to use the settings off the 1.6 model.

I don't think there's any scheduled time to have the tracking checked. I might be wrong but I've only ever had it checked / adjusted when I've noticed something was wrong i.e. uneven tyre wear etc...

Edited to say I've not had the tracking checked on the Octy as everythings ok.

Agreed Jimmy...

I'd say only when you spot a problem, or after you do something stupid like hitting a kerb hard etc.

Mines not been checked yet, at nearly 40k miles. No unusual tread wear noticed, well except for the destruction caused by track use that is.

Leave the tracking well alone unless you have good reason to believe that it is out. I have had 2 cars where the tracking was worse after adjustment than before, and both times I had to travel a considerable distance to get the tracking adjusted by garages which had the right equipment and the necessary expertise.

So the message I seem to be getting is to leave the tracking alone unless the tyres start wearing unevenly.
