I need a new back box. What options do I have? :-)

Featured Replies

Hey there

So, last week I took my car in to get a price for removing middle box on my exhaust. From what I have read, creates a nice little sound without the silencer. I've been quoted £40. Bargain!

When the car was on the ramp, mechanic and myself realised that the back box has seen better days. Quite rusty and probably holes in there (might explain the rough idle I am getting).

So basically, the back box needs replacing. Held off on removing middle box until I decide what to do with the rear section.

Skoda want over £300 just for the backbox-disgraceful. I'm thinking it would be cheaper to get new custom catback exhaust. Took it to a place today and I've been quoted 295 for catback and they said they

Sorry, didn't finish typing* they said they can tweak it to my liking, sound and tailpipes etc.

So I'm thinking, either try and find a second hand backbox and then just remove the middle box for a straight pipe or go custom. I would prefer not to spend 300 quid if honest! I've tried to get price for just the back box from various independents and nothing is showing on system, so a bit stuck! Anybody knew where I could get from from? Thanks in advance

Out of curiosity do you have any warranty left on your fabia? Plus would the backbox be covered ?

Hi mate. It's out of warranty unfortunately-not sure if it would be covered. I've a feeling that it's been damaged from speed bumps oops haha.

I've tried to get price from euro car parts and car spares and it's showing on their system as dealer oem part only :-(

If just go for the custom option if you are sure the backbox needs replacing. They can often look quite rusty/discoloured but function fine tho.

Try Silver Systems Leek, Staffs, dont know how close you are , but a mate of mine had a stainless back box made by them for his Merc., he said he was pleased with the price and quality.

Cheers mate. Gonna have a closer look at the exhaust again and if def needs replacing, custom makes sense. Suppose the bonus of this is I can get to choose the sound and looks :-)

Nice one! I live around an hour away but the Mother in law lives In Leek so could always sort it when up there visiting. Cheers

"Quite rusty" They all look like that! Really!

The back box is double skinned, and even if it looks like its peeling its outer layer, its probably not leaking.

Hey guys. I've decided to just go ahead with the middle box removal for £40. On closer inspection of the back box, you guys are right, It doesn't appear damaged. Think the rust makes it look worse than it actually is.

Will look at getting custom catback in the near future when I have more funds. Cheers all :-)

So, had middle box removed yesterday. Cost 45 quid. Well chuffed with the sound. Now sounds beefier but not Chav over the top.

General driving, doesn't really sound any louder. At motorway speeds sounds great. Only a slight drone. With stereo on, this is hardly noticible :-)
