Taxi Octavia

Featured Replies

Had my 05 Octavia estate elegance 1.9td for two years now and its been fantastic. 216000 miles and still drives like new .Had new wishbones for mot last year along with 2 rear drop links - This year recently had clutch and flywheel new discs and pads all round front shocks and a front wheel bearing ,apart from servicing only other parts needed have been a couple of front drop links . Due to car being over 5 yrs old if it fails taxi test its then barred from retest so no more taxi work so i send it in for strict mot before council taxi mot and it passed easily no advisories , 3 days later taxi test it passed again no advisories . Car averages just over 40 mpg on taxi work . Just renewed my taxi insurance and surprisingly got £200 cheaper than last year at £1200 i am in Rochdale area so not good regards insurance risk .anyone needing taxi insurance at good rate in similar area let me know i can put you in touch with a very efficient chap.

Nice to see another high mile 2005. Mines not a taxi but 05 with 198k. Here's to another 100k. [emoji106]

surprisingly everything still works ,its the electrics that worry me ,even reversing sensors work now after having bumper replaced after some clown drove into the back of me ,they didnt work from buying car but cant say i missed them ,was told it was probably just one of the sensors not working,I would say its a little annoying now it works.

Drivers seat airbag warning is giving me problems ,one to watch. Dodgy connector well documented here.

Had an issue about a year ago with airbag - customer got in a large chap and sat down heavily whilst putting seat back . Light came on . Took it to my mechanic and they put scanner on (snap on) and it came up with something like airbag ignitor activated ? anyway he checked connectors and it seems a connector had come slightly adrift - pushing it back in and another scan and light out .Oh forgot to mention had to replace turbo intercooler pipe a about 3 months ago it was leaking a small amount of oil onto undertray causing me to top oil up with about half a pint after about 5000 miles of oil change . Mechanic investigated and said pipe would need replacing as the locating lugs are known to wear away ,same night when i intended to get new pipe following day pipe blew out with a bang - replaced next day and all is good and no oil usage at all.

The airbag connectors can be cut out and soldered in as movement affects them. This is the car to seat yellow plug.

I had a leak from both intercooler pipes. By the time the garage checked it was not bad. and the mot garage always said a little weeping oil is not a failure. So I just carry on [emoji106]

Also not a taxi, and a 2004 mk1 but up to 194k now, and going like a clock. Its only when i consider looking at changing it and have a quick google i realise jat what a bargain i got it for 4 1/2 yrs ago at 126k and €3,500. An 8 yr old octavia for similar money today has near 300k miles on, is in classic (utter poverty) spec, and the interiors look like a family of goats lived in them..

I only paid £2700 for mine 2 years ago circa 150k miles but pretty mint - not much service history so i contacted the previous owner an old chap who had kept a handbook of every single job car had done on it ,most surprising was that clutch had been replaced under warranty only weeks before i got car ,That would explain why clutch was pretty good condition when i changed it a month ago ,had new dual mass flywheel so it seemed sensible to change clutch at same time i even changed slave cylinder. The old chap sent me the book he had listed all jobs done he even changed oil himself in between dealer services .
