A to Z won over sat nav today

Featured Replies

Be careful doing this, if your car is ever stolen from a car park for instance then all the thief has to do is hit 'home' on the sat nav and away they go. If your house key is in the car then it's an open door with route guidance to boot!

I was advised about this by one of those home safety brief things, it's recommended you park in a local shop car park near your home, then you will always head in the right direction and you know where you are from the shop.

Thats what i did after someone warned me of the same, just made my home address in the multi-storey carpark in the shopping centre. I only use this option if im stuck in some large god forsaken City like Edinburgh that i can't find my way out of until i get to somewhere i recognise. I sometimes find the satnav doesn't find streets in small towns but tried puting in the nearest large town and it finds the street. For instance, i was looking for a street in Newhouse which is close to Motherwell but it only found it when i typed Motherwell as it was where the satnav had that street linked to. The street i was looking for was in Newhouse, Motherwell.

I have the same MIB VW version (Discovery) & I wish I had mirror link (not available when I ordered) as I would like to mirror the OS 1:25,00K maps on my ipad onto the screen as the ipad has GPS location also...

I'd be happy to see if my one can find the address by postcode if you want to PM it to me.

I'll be going out shortly in any case to change my 'home' to the local shopping centre  :notme:  Risk never crossed my mind until now!

Out of interest, how much data roughly is used when using a smartphone as a sat nav? For say an hours journey.

I have a 2gb data plan but always worry I'll smash it lol

I dont want to sound like a smarty pants so no offence to anyone but if you can afford a new Vrs ..tax and insure it and run it..u can afford a data plan...and if not i suggest living beyond your means may be the problem ..lol.
