My Bolero is possessed!

Featured Replies

I have owned the car from new and the Bolero radio has always exhibited this trait but it now appears to be getting worse.

I can be driving along either in town or in the country and the radio will change channels by itself for between 1 to 10 seconds and then return to the selected station. The display does not change and no indication of the new station appears. The 'phantom' station can be either very weak or very strong e.g. I can be listening to Radio 2 and the Boleto will change to a commercial station for a few seconds and then back to Radio 2 again. I have had it back to the dealers and they can find nothing wrong and cannot make it do it. I even printed out another thread from Briskoda about the problem and updating the firmware but they were not interested unless they could see it happen themselves.

Anyway it is doing my head in and I am now looking for a replacement that is the same shape as the Bolero, uses the same wiring loom and displays the rear parking sensors and climatic control information but DOES NOT have sat nav e.g as plug and play as possible. I do not have a MFSW. I do not use the CD facility of the Bolero but it does have MDI fitted but this is not vital.

Has anybody got any suggestions?

Richard

Apparently a known fault with the later units. It might only happen when traffic is enabled, I can't remember but think that there were certain circumstances that made it more likely to occur. I swapped to the VW equivalent with DAB (RCD510 DAB off the top of my head) and never suffered the problem again.

Thanks for the info. I will look at those units.

I have the same problem on my superb, garage can never replicate the fault. We've agreed I'll try and video the fault and then they'll consider a warranty claim. I think it is something to do with the traffic programme, but I refuse to turn that off as it has got me out of trouble a number of times on my commute.
