Vrs hybrid clutch options

Featured Replies

Hi folks I could really do with some advice here. And any suggestions feel free to post links to actual items so I can debate my options.

Bought a 05 plate vrs and driven all the way to Edinburgh for it from West Yorkshire. Generally very happy with it asides an mot failure due to no cat.. anyway, The car is running a turbo dynamics md376 turbo and has a graph for 229bhp and 342lb ft of torques. The car is on 113k miles and had a luk v3 clutch @99k which I can vouch was working really well until I decided to do a second gear launch!!!! I know I'm so angry with myself as the clutch is now slipping at any kind of boost what so ever. I was advised the clutch may bed back in however this doesn't seem to bee the case.

So now I'm looking for a clutch and somebody to fit.

It needs to be OK to go in my daily driver and more importantly able to cope with the above torque comfortably.

So far I have had a quote from darkside @1140 supplied and fitted. Sachs smf good for 400lb ft.

This sounds like a lot of money to me and a really expensive mistake. I need to go brand new for the guarantee.

Any cheaper alternatives folks.???

Eagerly awaiting responses

No need to have a SMF. There's a few uprated DMFs out there. I have a sachs 4 paddle clutch an uprated DMF. Seems to handle any abuse I can throw at it. But then it is expensive and probably around the same price as you've been qouted.

Have a look at CG motorsports clutches some people arre running them with no issues.

Thanks for input. I've looked at cg motorsports and the best one they do is a stage 3 which is good for a quoted 40% power increase. This would be no good.

I decided to go smf as I was advised there is less to go wrong and I'm not too fussed about the noise, plus they can take more power

I have a CGmotorsport 666 clutch and smf kit which is coping fine with my mdx376. give the guys a call and they may be able to help you out on the cost.

I did have the dark side smf with sachs sre clutch, and now i have a helix smf and helix clutch - its great and pedal is like oem very light but smf is really loud, and it is about 1100 fitted also i used ali at unit18 did a great job.

Same kind of money as the darkside kit then. It appears I'm not going to be able to do this on a budget.

CG motorsports 666 or 777 series is more than adequate and about £600-650. Unit 18 are excellent on service and price for a clutch change.

Max Torque Clutches on Facebook do decent uprated clutch kits and fit for a reasonable price, i'll be going to them when I need one.

Just had a look on their site and the reviews seem good. I have sent them a message for some prices. Thanks for the tip as they are only in Leeds. I'll let you know their reply with prices

Xman750 on here is doing a stage 2 clutch and either SMF or uprated DMF supposedly good for 400lb ft. I've been running the dmf version at 320lb ft for over 2000 miles and it's faultless. Price is / was 550 delivered.

Got a price for £750 fitted dmf. Or £700 fitted smf. Capable of 420lb ft. Only problem is due to these guys being a new set up is there is only one car proven @ 10k fault free

Thanks that seems reasonable. Any ideas on the clutch he uses. I.e is it branded??

Fairly sure he was relating to the transporter clutch that was modified to fit the Fabia flywheel. Or vice versa. Not sure on brands however I have recently been in touch with him about said clutch setup and he currently does not sell them due to a few niggles that he wants to iron out before selling anymore.

Sachs stage 2 kevlar clutch mated to luk uprated dmf, from the 2.0 tdi. Not sure on the engine code but I do believe it's used in the transporter yes.

Feels almost like std, very very impressed

Pm him, very helpful
