  • With the success of the GTI you would think Skoda would launch a VRS model but I suspect VW will not allow that to happen.

Actually, £15k is probably relatively cheap for a hot hatch. The original Golf GTI in 1983 was supposed to be about £8k new, and adjusting up due to inflation, means it was about £20k in today's mone

You could get a brand new Seat Ibiza FR for that at the minute with the discounts being offered!

Next weeks edition of Auto Express has a road test of one of the first GTIs fresh off the production line.

The Grand Tour had a little review of it a week or two ago. Was a red UP! GTI

Has anyone seen the write up in Auto Express about Tubo UP?

This made me laugh:

"The 113bhp served up by the turbocharged three-cylinder is combined with 200Nm of torque, available from 2,000rpm. The engine is one of Volkswagen’s new generation 1.0-litre TSI stop/start units creeping into new cars across the VW Group’s various brands. Now though, it’s the beating heart of the fastest up! yet. It should deliver a classic three-cylinder thrum, but a sound actuator means that those in the cabin will get a synthetic exhaust note piped through the speakers".

The sound actuator would probably have to be one of the first things to be switch off / disable !!!

Sound actuator isn't a new thing. If memory serves gti golf has the same thing. Could be funny sometimes. ;)

I know it's not a new thing, but just because you can doesn't mean its a good thing.......

I just think it might be a bit OTT on a VW UP - ideas of grandeur springs to mind.

I'm sure it sounds great !!!!!!

VW offering options at no extra cost ,to give punters a choice - switch it on or off  .Simples each to their own then.

Minor criticism imo, thank god it's not an EV, that sounds like a milk float or a sowing m/c.

Perhaps the UP GTI is what the BMW Mini should have been, and not the bus that exists today.

The sound actuator DOESN'T pipe through the speakers. That is an error. It isn't synthetic in the sense it is simulated like you get in some Fords.

Probably good fun and within safe limits. This could be the new lupo GTi!

Or maybe get an Up! 1.0TSI 90ps.

Apart from being slower - progress...

No doubt it will have a glovebox and boot light though ;) .

probably slower in standard for, but once remapped it will blow it away!

Not if you do a 1.8T conversion on the Lupo.

Was the Lupo a 3 DR only, with less useable space overall than the VWUP GTI?

Weight difference?

125bhp 1.6-litre engine from the Polo GTi and weight-saving aluminium panels than contributed to a kerbweight of 960kg – almost 200kg less than the fast Polo

Comparison Autocar stats :"Anyway, "1070kg is still sufficiently light that you can make this a warm hatch by giving it a 999cc triple engine, making a modest 114bhp at 5000rpm, and a more immodest 147lb ft, which is generated from just 2000rpm thanks to the fact the motor’s turbocharged. Driving the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, it’s enough to propel the Up GTI to 0-62mph in 8.8sec."

Edited by vrskeith

While the Lupo is quicker 0-62 and top end (which is irrelevant unless you’re on a track) I’d imagine the Up will pull better mid-range due to it having more torque.
