Tfsi air intake question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Just been checking my engine bay, the usual, and i noticed on second glance yhe air intake doesnt look right, there doesnt seem to be a filter (just 2 plastic pipes seem to be "retrofitted" to stick out past the radiator)

Maybe im crazy, but im new to these engines and im not remotely good at anything more than the most basic of maintenence with cars!

***** edit: pic uploaded in a reply below!*****

Just thought id ask as it doesnt look right at all.

Cheers!

Thought so. Am i right in thinking there is no air filter there either?

Hope it doesnt bugger anything up until i can sort it!

Any idea what the part no, and aprox cost will be to fix it?

If its a slot in ill just do it myself, thats about the limit of my tehnical ability haha.

Thanks for your help!

Yes the air filter located at the rear of the engine cover

Whole engine cover needs to be removed then you will see how it is held in with torx screws

Ah right i see, just found a guide to change air filter, so at least its still running through a filter then *phew*

So apart from looking crap, is it doing any harm? Worth adressing sooner rather than later?

Thanks very much guys!

Just keep yours eyes open for one on eBay or something

All it will be doing is allowing more hot air into the intake as usual as partially it will be able to suck air directly from the engine bay

Ah lovely, any idea what im actually searching for? (What the part is called) or part number?

All im finding so far is replacement air filters and aftermarket kits :-/

Thanks so much for all your help!

You need two parts,

Air duct 1K0805962C

Intake guide 1K0129618BM

I don't know how much they are new, but there's a set of both on ebay at the moment for £29.99

If you search for Tfsi Intake you should find it.

Item number 222115905066

Carbon fibre ducts are available which look nice and are less likely to fall apart.  I paid about 150 for the piece of mind of not having the duct bits falling into the cooling fans again.
