Strange idle judder

Featured Replies

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help i start my car (1.9 tdi BLT) up from cold and it idles perfect once I drive 10 minutes and it's to temperature it starts juddering noticeably and quite annoying to be honest, if you stick the aircon on or rear heated screen it can get better, I understand there's an issue with the egr euro 4 emission thing compared to the early ASZ engine but just wondering if this is normal, car has had new original mounts, flywheel and clutch etc, just doesn't seem right to me, no faults in the system, I even done an egr delete to cure the euro 4 hesitation, thanks

Check the altenator pulley :)

I was thinking injector loom myself.

Check injector deviation and torsion value with VCDS to see if you actually have a misfire.

What's the idle speed?

That's where my idle sits, I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone with vcds, I did do a liqui moly diesel purge last year to just try and clean up the injectors for good measure, it also juddered at that point before doing the clean, been thinking about chucking a loom on for good measure I know they can be pretty poor

You had an issue with one before?

Not dismissing a misfire, it certainly doesn't register any misfire faults but it idles fine on startup and after a good motorway run when it's been constantly at the speed limit, it's almost like it doesnt like short journeys, my old golf gt was perfect it never missed a beat, but yeah its just rough on idle

Managed to check the car tonight with VCDS and to me the values all some ok, maybe injector 3 is slightly off in comparison to the others but it seems within tolerance, timing also seems ok, really scratching my head now, was hoping I would of seen something on the measure blocks

Are you sure timing is fine? When did it last have a timing belt change? The PD engines are bad for wearing out the water pump bearings because it is on the high tension side of the belt. Even a fraction of a change in the timing could cause rough running on a modern close tolerance engine. It might be worth pulling the covers off and making sure the tension on the belt is ok and that timing marks still line up or locking pins still slot into the right places. Just to completely rule it out.

Hi mate sorry just saw your reply the timing is ok checked it, pins line up but I believe the values would be out if the cam itself was out of tolerance by loosening the 3 bolts and moving the 18mm bolt, i replaced the injector loom and it improved slightly, doesn't seem like it wants to jump out of the bay but the judder is still there and not very nice to drive sometimes

Im wondering if the injection timing quantity is off or needs adjusted, sadly I can't access this with vcds lite, I did notice the maf readings look to be out of the tolerances on vcds, might be worth chucking a new maf on if it's giving dodgy readings

See the values for the maf? Or am I reading that wrong, I've got an egr delete and mapped out by a reputable tuner, I'm unsure if it's a glitch on vcds as the egr is mapped out and may be giving a false reading

Yes that looks wrong to me. Might be worth swapping the maf for a known good one just to test.

Just disco the MAF and see if it improves.

Disco lol? Been reading about, think it's normal because of the cycle rate has been turned down
