As above- new 2016/17 maps now available

They sure are and I'm impressed; the map shows my car at the correct location in my road - I don't know why but the pre update didn't although it wasn't far off.

To do this map update can I use any SDXC card or do I have to use the original?

I've downloaded them, extracted them to a SDXC card, but don't really want to take the chance of screwing the system up by doing something wrong and then having to fork out a load of money to the dealer to put things right.

Take the original card and copy everything on it to your computer. Delete everything off your card. With the downloader on your computer un pack the file to your original SD card. Go away for an hour or two then put the card in your car and away you go.

Why does it have to be the original card? Isn't my SanDisk Ultra good enough?

Ah sod it, I'll just use my trusty Garmin, I've already found that it's an awful system in the few weeks that I've had it. It doesn't know where Manor Royal next to Gatwick is, nor any of the streets in it. Good job I keep them in my memory!

Because of the security features on the SD card

Just downloaded it, fetched the card copied the stuff off of it, formatted the card and am now trying to extract the new data to the card.

I doubt it'll work, nothing ever works for me when I do upgrades.

I'm right, nothing happens except an error message, Darn piece of junk.

This'll happen to me, gonna leave it be I think

This is odd, I've just gone back to the update site tried again and a completely different bit of software and data has started to download! WTH is going on?

This is what I did. I downloaded the "downloader" from Skoda's update portal. Run that on your computer (it looks like it is doing nothing but it is). After a longish while it will ask you where you want to unpack the file to. Point it at your SD Card and the progress bar on the downloader should move along slowly (very) slowly. When it has finished bung the SD card in your SatNav fire it up and it finds the new maps. You don't have to press the update button on the SatNav screen, that is for updating the SatNav operating firmware (detailed elsewhere on this forum).

You don't have to format your SD card just copy the files on it to your computer then delete the files on the SD card.

I did this and everything updated as it should. Took a couple of hours though.

It has downloaded the 12 and a bit Gig in ~20 minutes and wrote it to the card in about 30.

I think the time taken to download is dependent on a) your broadband speed and the server that Skoda uses and how many are trying to access it at the same time.

How about Columbus, any direct links?

All done whilst I washed the car and hoovered the house!

Thanks for posting, all done and updated!

After yesterday I put the card in the car this morning and it did the update, same that the accuracy of it is out by between 25 and 50m, whereas before it was better.

In my case I found it to be more accurate. C'est la vie!
