Octavia battery light

Featured Replies

I was driving home tonight and the battery light has come on on the dash, I have checked my battery charge rate, it reads13.6 v at idle which i thought was ok,  is there anything thatcould cause it ? i have looked at the multiplug by the starter motor which seems ok but i couldnt disconect it !

Battery charging voltage at idle with no drain should be 13.7-14.2v. Could be a fuse on top of the battery or in the fuse box inside the car. If none of those I would say it's the alternator that's at fault.

Hi I checked it again tonight, the car hunts a bit then smoothed out and the voltage increases but now its around 12v so i would say the alternator has gone now ! Is it a bad job on the asv engine tdi ? it looks pretty awful !

On the TDI engines they have a freewheeling clutch on the alternator. So it maybe that at fault. Have you been getting a slipping belt noise on startup first thing? If you have it's probably that, as that's what happened to my ASV TDI.
