air bag warning led

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2010 octavia 1.6 tdi estate with 93000 miles on it. I have had it for 18 months and 13000 miles.

The airbag warning led came on recently

I have a copy of the ross-tech diagnostic software. It told me there was a fault with the driver's door airbag.

I cleared the fault with the software but it came back immediately.

I produced a print out and gave it to the local Skoda dealer but they were no use at all! Refused to look at it and wanted me to pay £100 to run their software which I am sure would give exactly the same report and then probably tell me I should spend £1000s on unnecessary repairs.

Is this a sensor fault or is the airbag likely to deploy?

Obviously if it means it could go off at any time I need to fix it. If it means that it might not go off in an accident, well this is the first car I've had in 45 years of driving which had a driver's door airbag, so I'm not that worried but the led on the dash is annoying.

There will be a fault stored causing the airbag light. Try clearing it or posting an autoscan?

There isn't an airbag in the door.

Need to know what the fault code was before we can advise.

Oh and the dealer is quite correct. They will have to connect to ODIS and run their diagnostic protocol. This will give them the correct diagnostic test plan for the vehicle and any relevant technical bulletins and wiring diagrams.

If it shows the sensor or wiring to the sensor as faulty in the door

have a look at the wiring where it connects to the car (rubber bellows when the door is open)

I tried clearing it. The led lit up again within a few minutes.

That's the airbag in the seat. The problem is normally with the yellow plug under the seat. Best repair is to remove the connector and join the wires directly using the appropriate heat shrink crimps.

Thanks Tech1e

I had the seats replaced with a leather set with electric controls by a garage when I got the car. I remember the yellow plugs.  It seems odd that it has taken a year for the fault to appear, but I'll certainly take it back to the garage and get them to look at it.

Under seat wire conectors are a Common fault with all cars not just vag

just check the wires on the yellow airbag plug are secure as they might of been swapped over from your old seats and not soldiered properly
