Help buying a used Octy

Featured Replies

Impressed with my MY16, my cousin is looking to buy one for himself on the used market. He'll prob go for 1.4TSI SE L DSG unless he can get a good deal on an L&K ;-).

Given my satisfaction with my MY16 I've concluded Skoda have managed to iron out a lot of the early major problems in this MY and I'm recommending he look for an MY16 for himself. He'll also benefit from MIB2 :-). Agreed he won't find too many used MY16 cars just yet, but they should start coming through thick and fast by Aug/Sept if he can wait.

Personally I bought my Octy brand new after running scared having read about all the problems and lemons on the used market. Hence I'm not too sure what are the obvious things to look out for and help my cousin with his purchase. Hoping folks on this thread might be able to provide a useful guide.

I came across this one but really not sure what to make of it...

I know the car depreciates like anything, and I can see this car isn't even a year old and has already done over 12k miles, but that price just seems v.low for used approved. Appreciate your thoughts on this one.

What's a good price for a year old good, used approved 1.4TSI DSG SE-L?

If you are buying less than a year old, go new unless you are paying cash - The finance on used is so much worse in 90% of cases.....

As you mention, the Octavia seems not to have any real disasterous quality problems & is very good in terms of reliability.

My comment would be don't commit to buying one until you have driven that specific car.

Even the new models appear to have the "Boom in Cabin" issue & there is no official acceptance or comfirned 100% resolution for this issue from Skoda.

Theres a very long thread in this group with all the détails (and still new comments after more than 2 years)

New ones with discount are around £18500 so at £13k, that is cheap, maybe the condition isnt so good.

A lot of those G prefix reg cars are Skoda UK cars, some are management cars others have been daily rentals, so check where is has come from and the condition.

Does show how poor the residuals are though. £21990 list to £13k in 1 year.

Also those cars aren't at that dealer, they just have an option to sell them for a few weeks. Call the dealer to ask to see it first, or you'll have a wasted journey. The cars are held in a central compound.

My lease car gets returned on the 15th of next month so it'll be up for sale the day after.  I believe it came from DM Keith in Leeds so I guess they will get it back.

150TDI with DSG, sunroof, heated seats, windscreen & washers, sports suspension, 18" Golus, Auto Park and will have around 21,000 on the clock.  I would have thought it'll go for around £13-£14K based on what the purchase price option was quoted to me at last month.
