Headlamps ! FFS !

Featured Replies

Drove my Scout for the first time at night last night - flippin' 'eck!

How can Skoda sell a car with such TERRIBLE headlamps?

I have the fancy projector, drive round corners with cornering lamps set up, is there an upgrade or do you guys suggest a down grade to 'proper' headlamps?

The Roomster along with the Fabia MK2 are renowned for having terrible headlamps.

The projector headlights you have will not have the cornering function on the 2007 model year, the first car with that was the MK2 Superb from 2008.

Behind those projectors are most likely standard Halogen bulbs, many have had some success replacing the bulbs with Osram Nightbraker bulbs.

Ridiculous, I was down to 40mph down a lane last night and still driving blind.

Full beam just gives a 'Mysteron' type pattern on the scenery.

Headlamps fitted are projectors, and when tested against a wall appear to move with the steering wheel ...

I'm wondering whether 100w bulbs would make a difference, or just melt the lens?

Won't melt the lens but may bugger the wiring

If you have de projector lamps then hid is the best option (cue the responses about blinding other people blah blah blah)

Properly installed you should not blind other people if you are unsure of the beam pattern nip to. Local garage and chuck them a few quid they will adjust them for you

The difference is night and day

Try and keep it below 6k pref 4300 or 5000 for a more oe look

I don't recommend fitting hid to non projector lenses as this is usually causes the beam to be scattered

I have no issues with my HID's, it's other drivers headlamps that bother me!

Seriously though, not mad keen on chopping the car about because I am a numpty with electrics - does anyone have experience replacing projector headlamps with normal reflector jobbies?

Wiring in HID's doesn't involve any chopping aside from 'maybe' the rubber cover on the rear of the unit (about £4 each new IIRC).

I fitted a set to Slottys Fabia in a car park with some pliers and a Stanley knife. About 30mins, job done.

His reaction once fitted was along the lines of 'My, my, those are really rather good chap'.....

Thanks. I'll trawl your project for details.

So with access being so tight is this a bumper off job?

Can be fitted in short space of time like johny5 said only cutting is the boot behind the headlamp

I am quite anal about wiring things so mine took a few hours but on opening the bonnet you can't tell they are fitted as all the modules and wiring are blended in to oe wiring or hidden

I reckon I could fit one in half hour or so as it is all plug and play

There's a lot more "idea's" if you put, headlights, HID'S, on the search box at the top of the page. :nerd:

 merely some grazed knuckles and patience

Yes, I've looked at high output Xenon H7 bulbs and/or a change to old fashioned reflector lamps.

Jury is still out at the moment

£50for hid kit or countless hours sourcing lamps and fitting them the getting them set up

Never mind jury being out its case closed in my opinion

I live in an area that's mainly unlit at night and have no problems with visibility and as regards potential dazzling followed numerous police cars with no issues

We have the curve projector lamps on our Fabia (these are a basic version of AFSII that just steer with the headlights. Bit like the very old Citroen DS headlights).

I tried fitting a Hids4U stealth kit (used Hids4u kit before) and it caused an error on the lights. They would go haywire and steer the light to the end stops.

Have since removed and sending back for a refund. Onto the next

I have an issue with after-market HID's due to where I work ...

I've ordered some Phillips Extreme 130%, and I will adjust the headlamps as high as they will go .... if that don't work, I'll have to slow down !

I've seen a lot about headlight aim affecting the pattern spread ... my headlights are aimed ridiculously low, I drove home on full beam last night and had not one single flash!

Is the allen bolt in the photo the correct one to turn?

Anyone know whether clockwise is higher or lower?

Mine has the simple reflector headlights but yet it was terrible when driving at night. I found out too that the beam was adjusted to the lowest position possible. What I did was to replace the factory fitted H4 (keep in mind that mine has reflectors) with Osram nightbreaker and ask my mechanic to raise the beam to the highest legal position using his light-beam adjuster-meter. That was the solution to my problem, without annoying the oncoming traffic.

Now I use Nightbreaker Ultimate and driving at night is a joy.
