Map updates from Skoda's website for Amundsen Radio

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Updated my Octavia from a 2010 Mk2 Scout to a 2016 Scout in Denim Blue. I've called the car Hewie.

Noticed the maps were out of date (as built from Skoda). Very poor for a car that less than 2 months old (from the factory). I have tried to download the 12GB of data (ouch) and I have had two Download failures...both at 11.70GB. As it's taking 5 hours a go...I wasn't very happy with that. Any recommended download helpers for Firefox. Really don't want to pay Skoda to do something that I can do myself.

Love the car...sports mode really SHIFTS (compared to my Euro 4 engined 2010 car). Leave it in Normal most of the time.

Hi there, i've only downloaded and updated maps twice on 2013 onwards Octavia's but it's worked both times. On the Skoda portal where you put your chassis in to see if there are any updates it mentions letting your local dealer do it. As far as i've been aware there is no cost for this. I have done this twice for customers at our dealer and not charged as the update is usually free and the process requires very little effort. That and a lot of older or less computer savvy people can really struggle updating by themselves.

Map updates are released twice a year so would have had the latest available at build date.  I guess download time depends on the speed of your connection, took about 20 mins on 75 Mbp/s connection, another half hour to unpack the files & copy to the SD card.  If taking 5 hrs that's fairly slow (by current standards), could try a local Brisky member with faster broadband to download files for you.  Be happy to help but I'm little bit further south than you.

After more than a year I'm still loving the update from 2010 to MkIII Scout - enjoy.

I've yet to do mine but I'm guessing it's going to be bother! Just a note on letting the dealer do it, skodas website says...

"In case of problems or needs updating, please contact the nearest service partner ŠKODA. (Note: Update on the service partner is charged according to his hourly rate.)"

Naturally if you have a good dealer this won't be the case (there's not many about mind you!)

I have Columbus. 22GB download takes about 11 hours with my 4.8 MB/s connection speed. I also experienced failures when using Firefox (my default browser). Try using Chrome, it seems to work ok for me.

I used Chrome and had no problems downloading the 12Gb of data, I just had issues getting the system to recognise it. It did in the end though.

Unless your dealer is very nice they will charge you for updating the maps..!!

When downloading any large files, a download manager is recommended.

Internet Explorer has one built it which works for some basic downloads (i've not tried for the maps but as its just a simple url it should work).

I used Microsoft Download Manager for the previous map updates:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27960

Its a small, basic, stand-alone tool which lets you specify a link to the download.

It the download is stalled you can just hit resume & it will restart from where it left off.

When I've used the Skoda update site, the browser is only used to download Skoda's own download manager  'downloader.exe'.  Once the download manager is running the browser is not used for the large map update .zip file, browser can be closed & file download continues in the background.  Unless things work differently on other systems.   It might be worth checking the computer sleep / hibernate settings & disabling if necessary as these will sometimes shut down hard drives / internet connections after a pre-set time.

Eventually got there with FireFox 43.0

That was a very large download indeed.

The one thing that also got me - was the fact that you have to use the same data card as the current maps - because Skoda put in an encryption chip into the SD Card [sneaky] - and the radio looks for the encryption chips.

Thanks for all your help.  Latest maps sorted.

You are so right racman - I think it was actually FF 47 at the time - not FF43 as previously advertised ; I'm on FF48 now.
