Unmarked Police - more difficult to spot these days.

Featured Replies

Is is me or are unmarked Police cars more difficult to spot these days ?

Thames valley seem to be changing their Omegas for Vectras at the moment so gone are they days when you slowed down when you saw an Omega - they have the sales rep's car of choice :(

Apparently Northants Police have three Octavia vRS', although I've yet to see two of them.

Very true - and be aware there is also at least one Ford Focus about in that area, it had pulled over another road user as I came past :P

The second problem is that the display panels they have used to be obvious, but now a lot of people have sat nav etc you can't use that any longer either.

Suppose you'll have to stay at the reasonable side of things now ;)

I have seen Volvos' on the M40 in Warwickshire, S-Type Jags on the M42 (also Warks.) and a silver Octavia VRS on the M6 toll road.

South (I think) Yorks had a Scooby - how outragous was that! Second to an XR3i for bating a racer!

I guess our local force must be making too much money from gatsos and stuff as there all driving round in Mercedes E class AMG's  Audi RS4 & RS6's  Mitsubishi Evo 7's  BMW's etc etc, even the mercedes vans have V8 engines  they have both marked and unmarked versions of all the above  and the panda cars are mostly GTI/ST versions as well!!

Just drove past a parked up battenburged vRS on my way back from dentist.Parked my car, wandered over, tapped on his window.

Very nice chap.Said it was fine but it was a 'spare' car.Said Walsall Police drive T5 Volvos as his mates pulled up next to me (with some tracksuited yob in the back seat)

Unmarked,very boring/inconspicuous darkish blue S60 .Sneaky;)

One nice thing he did say though." New vRS is out now isn't it" I like people who are up on cars:thumbup:

And thanks to the policeman for talking to the dribbling idiot still with a frozen mouth:D

Yes they do, when I did my IAM exam the police instructor said they had some.

you in northants?

They may be changing their motors, but fact remains, if you see something that is normally sat in lane 3 at 90 , dawdling along in lane 1 at 65 - ish, then slow down ..... and check for dealer stickers in the rear window, double rear internal mirrors, and all the other usual stuff ...........

Around here (South Wales) I know for a fact (as I was doing IT work in the Tredegar Courthouse which backs onto the police station's lot) they have Volvo S80s and new Mondeos... I've also seen an older Volvo S80 and have been told there's a yellow M3 to beware of.

Meanwhile, the lady downstairs' husband works in organized crime squad or something, and her fella's police issue car is a bleedin' Clio GT!

One thing I have noticed around here is that most of the new police cars in Cardiff are Mk2 Focuses painted in grey (to increase resale value when the car is retired, apparently - nobody likes white!) which seem to be using sirens from a breaker's yard! Seriously, you hear the old 'nee naaaw' and think it'll be a clapped out 306, not a brand new Focus!

around here they use Octy vRSs...both marked and unmarked.

Black new Vectras are the car of choice primarily for Cheshire Police, although there is a discreetly marked and rather ageing white V70 mk1 that is still in service. I also believe they have a black Corsa! One pulled up behind me at the lights the other day and two officers in uniform were in it, although it might have been a private car I suppose.

Apparantly Northern Ireland have a race tuned Evo VI as a traffic car (a marked one)!!

for any of you sheffield guys/girls, they have some unmarked dark blue BMW 5 series......

our local plod have an alarming selection of cars. the one that i know of are, 2 marked ford explorers. a rangerover sport, merc jeep, 2 merc c320 in sivler and stickered up. one unmarked c320cdi, 2 new 5 series bmw, 2 silver unmarker vectra gsi, 2 red mitsibushi shogun sports, and a silver octavia 1.8t. as well as a batenburg new focus st. have to say the new focus st looks abit tasty stickered up.

Essex has Octavias, BMW 530d, and assorted other stuff. To be honest, they are using such a variety of cars these days, it is near impossible to spot them all.

Indeed, gone are the days of - 'oh theres a Vauxhall Carlton/Senator or Rover 800 behind me, better slow down!'

You really cant tell what is and isn't an unmarked car these days, even the marked ones are tricky when approaching you from behind theres so many different cars, I was trundling along at 40mph in a 30 zone last night (big wide open road, not past schools or anything) at about 3am, when I noticed a set of headlights approaching at speed, wasn't sure if it was old bill or not, looked like merc headlights but before i'd had chance to decide if it was plod or a mate he overtook me on the wrong side of a pelican crossing and continued past 2 sets of bollards on the wrong side, turned out it was the fully stickered up AMG E class, i'm sure they arent allowed to drive like that without kojak lights/sirens are they?

The police around kings Lynn use a silver Mondeo. Saw a BMW being nicked the other day after he passed me at high speed on the A17!

the best way to spot them (Chris GB should be able to spot this!) they always have a rear view mirror above the passenger seat ;) visible from both front and behind ;)

I always fear the slightly bluish headlights in my mirror because of all those Mercs they use.

I've also remembered when I used to have business in Bradford, just on the northwest corner of the city centre (on that road that goes towards the big Morrison's) is a Shell garage where all the unmarked coppers filled up... no, really, I saw all sorts of ****e cars (including a red Megane) pulling in and being filled by a uniformed officer.

Can't say as i have noticed that around here. Will keep an eye open for it. certainly not noticed it when I have been out in unmarked traffic cars.

Worse then that, you wont spot the additional interior mirror if you are coming down the outside lane at night. Lets face it. It is just not sport anymore.

Chris

ive seen 2 c320's under cover up here and have heard about an undercover supercharged V6 superb too

Lets face it. It is just not sport anymore.

Chris

This might sound odd.. but how do you know its an undercover car?

Whens passing cars i look to see if there is anyone in the passanger seat, i hope they always travel in 2s?

Nope they don't - so wouldn't count on that (any longer) either ;)

Could any of the Police octy vRS have " Briskoda.net " stickers in the rear window :) ..............Fancy being Pulled by a fellow Briskodian
