I've looked high and low, found one place, but can't get the guy to answer the phone...

If anybody happens to find stock of an amd opteron 165 can you let me know please, or a 146, but I think for what I mainly do a dual core is better.

I know a few on ebay atm...

Ba this dam upgrade lark ;)

Novatech don't have any stock sadly...

The second link is why the hunt for the opteron is so important, it's cheaper and achieves the same net result :)

But thank you for posting ;)

Tempted, and I was looking at them last night, but many say 28 days...concerend about placing orders all over the place and then forgetting about them.

I have a 148 here i am willing to sell/swap.

Has been running at 275x11 (3025Mhz) for a few months with no problems.

is it quick then?

Yes, and complete overkill for what i use.

I was going to buy a 146 at the time of my upgrade, but missed the stock by a day or so, and ended up with a 148.

I thinking of selling it and buying a 144 (should overclock enough for what i need) and putting money towards a laptop (hence the swap option +cash ofcourse)

I would sell for £150 (what i paid, less the vat).

It is a retail box with unused HSF, as i use watercooling (has never reported over 40 degrees C in temp. Sits at 38 usually when folding)

is it quick then?

its a full half gig faster than my overclocked 146

Reminds me i had a screenshot from a while back. Turned it down a bit since then.

7648.attach

what memory and timings are you running with that clarey?

the stuff im using at the mo is a bit poo.. and i cant get a decent divider for it

Memory is OCZ 2Gb kit @2,3,2,5

I know what you mean about the dividers, my memory will run at 230mhz, but nearest divider (333 i think, CPU/14) on my board = memory at 216mhz. Jump up a divider and its unstable.

Yeah.. suppose youve got the advantage of the higher multiplier too.. im locked at 10 max.. tho it makes calculating the htt a bit easier. this cpu can go fast.. running it as 2.8 at mo.. had to drop divider to 266. still on stock hsf.. and all crammed into a mini tower with 5 hdds and a 7800gt heating things up.. makes a nice footwarmer :D

The x11 multiplier does help. Watercooling helps alot, more for noise than performance, my 7800GT was transformed when i changed to an NV-78 cooling block.

Although i only have enough room for 1 HDD in my case now:)

The komplett ones usually arrive within 2-3 days of placing the order. They're very good like that.

OK I'm a little confused :o -- doesnt take much I know -- but there seems to be an awfull big variety of Opterons -- S939 & S940 then 1 series & 2 series -- are the 2 series like an X2 64 i.e dual cpu on one or have I lost the plot !

stick to s939 100 series... these are pretty much athlon 64s..

the 200 series are designed to be used in multi processor machines and are only available in socket940, so needs a special motherboard (the 100 opterons can be used in a athlon 64 motherboard)

Might give the guys a call then, Paul found me another link and despite a slighlty odd comment I've left an order in place with them....they reckoned the 165 was not released yet; which is kind of odd as many places have already sold out. However they did have 146's but only the CACJE 0546BPMW stepping.

Clarey, it's a 940, otherwise I would of bitten your hand off, still might, but SWMBO is on a 939 board with a dodgy northbridge fan...so I was going to use that, convert my cube case to water, strip it of drives, reset the PIV I've got now into the lounge as a media box with my little linksys nas unit...lots of little steps tp be done in this "scheme".

From what I've read, the dual cores will all max out about 2.4, now for me as I'm not a core games person, so make that movie work, photoshop, development, ftp'ing etc I've found the PIV HT to work quite well, the dual core amd can only be an improvement on that. This is why I'm tempted by it over the value of a single core. I watched a tomshardware vid of a 3.6gh PIV versus a PIV 3.0 with HT...load times for photoshop and many others were far quicker on the HT than the faster single core.

On top of which I do intent to complete my water project that I began sketching 3 years ago when I got the idea of a yeong Yang cube.

It will happen I swear it will.

Its a s939, its just CPU-z reports it otherwise.

I been checking and i cant get a 144 to replace it yet (out of stock again!)

I'm sure you will find a 165 soon enough. just keep looking.

P.S Anyone know any good laptop deals, PM me please. Secondhand or otherwise.

Just been looking at scan's website on there Mixit bundles page they have an Opteron 144, A8N-SLi Deluxe Mobo,Gigabyte GH PCU31 CPU cooler,250Gb samsung HD & 1GB Corsair PC3200C2PT memory all for
