Greasy streaks

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a new white Octavia.

I get dirty vertical streaks on the sills beneath the doors. I assumed they were just dirt, but they proved difficult to wash off.

They seem to be streaks of black grease. I got them off OK by rubbing with a cloth rather than washing with a sponge, but where is the grease coming from ???

Thanks as always.  K

Same hear with mine. I think its wax......

its residue from the wax thats sprayed into the cavities to offer rust protection

How new is it? It could be grease or some other lube from the door/window mechanisms. Or maybe dust left over from manufacture. I don't remember seeing anything like that on mine, but it's been a while since it was new.

If you're worried take some pics, start documenting when it forms (after rain/wash, overnight, hot days, etc) and speak to the dealer. If you wait for the first service they can't claim that it will clear up on its own.

I get this on the sill near the front of the door - in my case I'm sure it is excess grease from the door hinges. Does not wash off so I use a dry cloth to wipe away.

Mine is exactly the same, it really shows on my new White Octavia but on my previous blue one you couldn't really see it unless you got down on your hands and knees!

Might it be from inside the doors?  Do the doors have drain holes for rainwater which gets in ?

How long will it continue then ?

its the waxoil from inside the doors.  in warm weather it melts and excess  runs out, it can last years but probably just this first summer.

Not just restricted to an Octavia had it on my white Golf R too.

As said by others, it is residual waxoil or similar type thing from doors or inside the door/wing area.

My Golf was still doing it at 11months old.

Also had it on my white Leons (both of them). I've had to clean some drops of grease from near the door hinge on the octavia too, the streaks are annoying but other than being fugly there's likely nothing to fret about!

Are there drain holes then under the doors ?

It's defo interior coating for the doors.

More obvious in the summer when the panels can get very warm and as a result the stuff 'runs'.

Depending on how much was applied, you may get get streaking for some time until the surplus has seeped out in the warmer spells. I have never had it on my Octy but my Rocco ran like a beatch.

Easily removed with a rag moistened with petrol or similar.

Yes....how do you think the water gets out?

All car doors are wet inside. The rubber seal cant be perfect or the glass would never wind down.

Petrol, white spirit or tar remover will get in off.
