remap

Featured Replies

I'm lookin into getting the VRS remapped plus the DSG. I've been on the phone to a few in the north east but the best feedback comes from Big Fish Tuning. They did my mates E350 AMG Merc and got 665 pound foot touque which is impressive, just want to know if any Octavia owners have had it done and what real life results you got? He says if you get the engine and box done separate it'll cost £400 but if you get them done at the same time its £350 which doesn't seem bad for wanting the car for 4hrs! Any advice welcome.

Cheers Phil

I had my done by Shark and it completely transformed the car. Previously i had around 300Nm torque and 200bhp they have lifted it up to 400Nm and 245bhp as this is stage 1 only , that means that they did just the software. They gave me StS box that means that I can swap maps over without visiting them. I can highly recommend them! So far I did 6000 miles without any problems. I hope this helps .

Don't know if Rob is still with big fish tuning, I'd imagine he is as it was his company but he had very good reputation amongst the vw guys

I had my FL vRS mapped by Shark and it was excellent - really recommend them.

I'd really love an S1 map, but I'd very reluctant to do it on the original clutch/DMF with 71k on it.  You can guarantee the clutch would start to slip shortly after, so there's £1200+.

I'm considering a shark map, does anyone know of any current/future offers?

I'm ready to go for a remap too, but just waiting for an offer to come up.

Got some money spare after selling an RC heli.  Would a stage 1 on an OEM VRS with 72k miles be a bad idea? Would the clutch/DMF cope? I tend not to accelerate hard from low revs and like to change gear around 3k rpm, so I wouldn't be putting it through crazy strain all the time...

Having 2nd thoughts? ;)

I don't think I've seen anyone have issues with clutch/DMF after a remap. I think the issues arise from people suddenly thinking it's The Enterprise and hooning it everywhere.....which would not do an unmapped car any good. If you're not accelerating hard in low revs, I don't see what the problem is.

I think it really comes down to why you want a remap. I had one and got better mpg out of the car, as well as being nippier, but better mpg was the goal. If you're going to get onto the power train (no pun intended) then you won't be stopped at a Stage 1 remap for long anyway.

Better MPG when town driving is a big plus, but it's mainly for the extra acceleration. S1 would be as far as I'd go as I don't want to chuck loads of money at this car as it's getting on. A stage 1 map would give me a nice fun boost in power without breaking the bank, as long as I don't need a new clutch as that'd double the price.

Another vote for Shark all the way for me.

I'm running a stage 1 Shark STS map on the 1.9PD estate, and it has totally transformed the car, with far better performance and better MPG figures to match. Blinkered maybe, but I wouldn't look anywhere else for a remap. I'm more than happy with their product and certainly rate their customer service very highly.

As planehazza says above though, be careful about remapping if you are on the original clutch and DMF, especially at >70k miles. It's not a cheap replacement.....

I think I'll probably skip mapping for that reason then :/.  The 20% power gain and improved MPG would be lovely but I'm not in any hurry to cough up £1500 for new clutch, DMF, and the map itself :( I might just wait until I get my next car which will have less miles on but that'll be a year or more yet...

I'm not expert, but my clutch isn't slipping at all and I don't tend to drive it like a muppet, nor do I ever plant it from low revs.  I like to keep the revs higher at around 3k before changing gear and when I'm accelerating and decelerating around 30mph between lights (and there are lots of them between home and work!) I tend to stay in third to ease the strain.  Would I get away with a map in this case or would I still be pushing it?
