Unusual loss of power

Featured Replies

Dear All,

Driving back along the motorway tonight in a 2007 Octavia 2 VRS TFSI Petrol, the engine was running fine, then i put my foot down and experienced a slow tail off of power.

Then for the rest of  the journey it was like driving a non-turbo. The engine just did not want to rev (it was effort to get it above 3000 in first gear!) and i lost a lot of torque - I actually had to change down gears! :). Whenever I revved it was as if something was braking the engine - if that makes sense.

Anyway pulled off motorway, switched off engine for 2 minutes. Started it again without issues and it was absolutely fine. then after 20 mins the symptoms came back slowly but not to the same degree.

No warning lights, but will get diagnostics done Tomorrow.

Any ideas?

All best

That is limp-home mode, it is designed to preserve the engine in case of component failure.

It is normally accompanied by a dash light though so it will interesting to see if there are any fault codes logged.

Had the same on the work car. No warning lights at all. Turned out to be the turbo that was slowly dieing!
