Some tw*t paintstrippered my car - thanks!

Featured Replies

Yes two days after Christmas and some complete tw*t throws paintstripper (or something similar) down the side of my car.

Damage consists of a large splodge about a foot wide on the rear passenger door which has dripped down onto the sill taking it to bare metal, plus a further large dollop deposited on the front wing and bonnet, which has also dripped into the shutline between them, again this is down to the bare metal.

Well besides confirming that these cars are indeed galvanised! I can also testify that there are some mindless idiots living in the village of Pelynt in Cornwall where my car was parked whilst down there visiting family. Oh yes and the local Plod are about as useful as the proverbial chocolate teapot, when I discovered later on that the same thing happened twice earlier last year - the desk sergeant to whom I

i'm sure i read about the same thing happening to someone elses car on here not so long ago... might be worth doing a thread search.

IIRC someone mentioned that the chemical used to strip the paint contaminates the metal underneath and makes it unfit for repainting. thus the insurance would write the car off... sorry about this...

mindless tw@ts the lot of them...

Uhhhh very harsh :(

See if you can get any recommendations on the insurance repairers place, some are good some are bad. Some are better than some dealers.

can't believe this. surely sanding it down is worst case scenario?

Bloody Cornish. Never heard of anything similar, and surprised to hear it happen in the usual backwater county of Cornwall.

did you get it sorted:eek:

It is extremely hard to sort this out properly! :thumbdwn: The stuff used, usually nitromorse doesn't contaminate the metal as such, but leaves a VERY distinct thickness in paint/product film of around 120 microns:mad:

"Sanding down" is usually the option used but this has only limited effect and the finish can look rippley. Ironically the proffesional method is to paint strip the whole panel to bare metal to give a level so to speak, and then re etch prime, wash prime, wet on wet prime, colour and clear coat the panel as per manufacturers specifications:)

PS just noticed how boring I am :o well, give a man a trade!!!!! hope this helps.
