Dealer doesn't seem keen to get me a test drive

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I've been wanting to get a test drive of the Octavia vRS but my local deal (Swindon Fish Brothers) doesn't seem all that interested. When I went in for an initial look I got talking and asked about testing a manual petrol but all they had were DSG petrol or manual diesel. They took my details and said they would contact me when they got a petrol manual for me to try. That was a while ago.

I also contacted them via their website to book a test drive and its been two weeks now with no response.

I've never bought a new car before so I don't know if these kinds of waits are normal. Honda and Ford seemed to get a turn around quite quickly after the request. Ideally I want to try a vRS 230 but it seemed like this was not something that could be arranged.

Right now I am wondering if they think I am a time waster and don't want to do business with me. I should probably call them but I dunno if I'll just be fobbed off.

Maybe call and ask to talk to the Dealer Principal and ask if there is some issue like one of the Salespeople have the Demonstrator and not keen to let a prospective customer drive it.

Or Skoda Customer Services might be keener to arrange a test drive.

They are selling cars that are Simply Clever through Dealerships that sometimes are simply stupid.

Try asking around any other dealers within reach, & peek at auto-trader for used vRS 220 or 230 for sale.

Again, if there's one within reach, arrange a test drive, if you like it then, buy it or stat talking about a brand new car.

Carwow is also your friend, it could put you in contact with dealers who are keen to sell cars.............

Definitely checkout other dealers in your area. the vRS is a popular model to be tyre kicked. and also then to be brought online cutting the dealer who provided fuel time etc out of making any living. Of course this is why they are moving to the services, and higher hourly rates...

That said they should be trying to sell you a car ;) The drive of the 220 v 230 in a straight line isn't that different. I'd be tempted to try the dsg box petrol. You're not losing much to it. The manual box is 99.9% the same car, just a manual. For me the dsg is the one to eliminate or fall in love with option.

Over the last few weeks we've been getting consistently lower prices than other online tools using our very keen dealers. A bit far perhaps to pop for a test drive, but worth remembering/considering for the order and I think 0% is back on now... See my signature for more details ;)

I've sent an email regarding the briskoda deals you made a thread about. Also I have been told that anything less than a 10% power gain can't really be felt but the 230 comes with a lot of kit as standard and those crazy rims that have divided people a bit I kind of like. I'm wary of pushing the price up further with the DSG box as I am opting for an estate because I think it looks a lot better.

I had a very similar issue when I was on the market for my TSI - the dealer was reluctant to offer me a test drive, seemingly because I had prices on offer through CarWow, He eventually deigned to let me have a short test drive (rather than the long test pre-booked through Skoda UK) in a 1.4 DSG, rather than the manual that I was looking to buy. The demonstrator did not have the paddle-shift wheel fitted and I decided that I could not live with a DSG used in manual mode (I generally prefer shifting for myself) I would really love to try the DSG again - but with the paddle option fitted. I love the 1.4 TSI engine, plenty of pull as long as you don't drop it below 1100-1200 RPM, which is really only a fast idle speed.

I you can swing it, try the DSG with paddle-shift.

Good luck, I'm sure that there is a dealer out there who will welcome your business.

Warrior193.

Buy a Honda or Ford instead and stop wasting the Skoda dealer's time trying to buy a Skoda...LOL

Ouch!

Well it seemed that after I got on to SkodaUK about it I had a call about a vRS being available to test drive. Mind you, it didn't help that I'd booked in for 3 and apparently they weren't expecting me until 4. What the hell?
