Cold start - doesnt start first turn

Featured Replies

Weird one, my engine is behaving perfectly ok bar needing a 2nd crank when cold.  Hot start is fine.

The fuel pump primes OK when the drivers door opens too.

No error codes either, I did replace the camshaft sensor a few years back for a pattern part...any clues? :)

Crank sensor??? Mine did this for a bit before it threw a code, P0322/P0321 IIRC

Hard to tell as no codes!  Perfect after its been started however...

Unless air over time is entering the system somehow and the engine has to move that fuel upto the rail...

Im guessing the camshaft sensor isnt the problem as that was going funny on hot starts and eventually led to a breakdown in traffic when the engine was very warm.

When you say its cold do you mean after you've left it sitting overnight?

What happens when you start it on the second turn of the key, then turn it straight off and try it again?

My money would be on the crank sensor. I noticed these problems recently and no codes appeared, then one day the crank sensor just gave up on me. After replacing it was back to normal once again.

It seems intermittent, this morning started fine.  Yes a second crank usually does the duties.

To be fair I also recently removed the Sai and that seemed to occasionally give me the odd 2 crank start.

Have you checked the battery

The battery is pretty new and a top of the range Bosch one.
