Mot Test

Featured Replies

Hello guys

I'm looking for best place/garage to get MOT done in Midlothian or Edinburgh. I use to use kwik fit but after last time they just made problems from nothing. Any suggestions ?

I know there use to be council mot centres but I can't them any more.

Thanks for helping

To be honest, when my cars have been reasonably newish, I've always used the main dealer for MOT, though it seems like most main dealers now farm this task out, but I've always had good service from main dealers (Audi+VW+SEAT) with only proper failures being picked up and MOT done at a sensible price. Is there not still a council place at South Gyle ?

Edit:- talking about KwikFit, I had a friend who got his wife to hand their Fiat 127 into KwikFit in Marchmont (many years ago) - it needed a new rear damper as the protective cover was damaged and exposed the rod, she let them change it but my friend later commented on the fact that the protective cover is not part of the rear damper and the rod on the new damper was now on show! Not good!

No local indie garages near you with a good rep? My mate is a mechanic so I'll trust him to do the necessaries with the car. Although as this hasn't had what I would call a proper service for 8 years I may take it to a local VAG garage

My car is quite old (10years) so I'm know that it got problems which comes with age like this. Most of the garages charging quite big amount of money just for a few things so I rather get it done on my own or in local old school garage. Problem that they don't do MOT and taking to the main dealers they will show me how bad car shape is :D

Ps. The last time kwik fit wanted 470pound for parts and job. I took it to the local garage and with parts from Eurocarparts it cost me just 130pound. In the same time they burst my tire and told me they found nail in it..

Won't matter how old it is, as long as it's been kept in decent condition. Saying that, you may be like me here and would be better taking it tona VAG specialist this time round just to get a proper look at it. It'll cost more bit worth it

My old Passat and wife's Polo both only ever got their MOTs at VW dealer and they were both 13 years old when they were moved on, thing is, if you keep on top of every thing the car needs to run safely and reliably, going to a main dealer should not worry you too much.

Maybe you right is better to fix it properly and in one go rather than doing peace by peace

If your still looking for a fair MOT done correctly at a decent price head to McGregors MOT Centre on Steads Place just off Leith Walk. £30 MOT, very fair and the service is second to none.

I've been in the trade now for 10 years, always take my 'homers' there for test. If you need repairs they are fairly priced to, but you have that covered. Good luck for MOT :D
