Timing belt

Featured Replies

Hello gang, only me...again.

Question; how easy is it to check my timing belt for wear and tear. Got a lot of service history with the car but nothing that indicates that this has been done.

The car has 124k miles on it and it's meant to have been done at 80k so I'm a bit anxious to get it checked and if needed get a new kit on.

Best bet is taking the top timing cover off and having a look. If it looks fresh you'll still see writing on it. Problem is its usually a pulley that fails instead of the actual belt.

If youre in any doubt youd be better changing it though, for the peace of mind it would give you.

If in doubt, any doubt then get it done.

A visual inspection is not enough to be able to accurately determine the wear on a timing belt.

Thanks for the replies guys, I know that it'll cost around the 300 mark to strip down and change completely but as you both made valid points I'll take the hit on it and get it done.
