Fitting drop window to rear passenger door of mk1 Octavia estate.

Featured Replies

Can anyone please give me help or advice??????

I have stripped out the window and door locking mechanicals from the door and got delivery of a replacement window from AJ Spares Ltd.

How do you fit the window into the door?

I have tried turning it sideways and sliding it down but it seems to be fouling on the side impact bar and I am not happy trying to ease it on down. One broken window is enough.

HELP !!!!!!

You need to remove the outer water scraper seal. Be careful though as it is one piece with the rear triangle glass.

This gives room to drop it in straight to miss the crash bar.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have already removed this seal but am still not having any joy. Can you answer a few questions please?

1. Do I lower the window from the outside or the inside of the foot?

2. Is the window lowered with the bottom of the glass parallel to the opening or should the glass be angled and, if so, which way?

3. Am I correct in keeping all the door and window mechanics out and replacing them only when the glass is in the door?

4. The window broke while fully lowered by the mechanism. Do I wedge the window in the shut position while installing the mechanics and then lower the glass onto the metal bracket for locating the glass and retightening the clamps?

Many thanks.

On mine the window glass had been silconed in the UP position, so I cut that and lowered the glass down so I could get at the clamping bolts, with them slackend off I raised the glass and wedged it in place, then the mechanism with motor just came out of the door, fitted the new mechanism, with the clamp about halfway up the slide then released the glass so it was sitting in the clamp, raised the window so I could do up the clamp bolts Job sorted :)

My problem though is that I am starting with the glass completely outside and away from the car. I have the door stripped of all mechanicals and fittings. I now have to get the pane of glass into the door.

Sounds dead easy and I know it probably is. What I need to know is - what is the secret?

Excellent my man. It's the window stay bar screws that I need to remove in order that I can release the stay ar and thereby create room to please the window into the wider space.

I will go and give that a try and report back.

Many thanks.

SUCCESS - Thank you all for the advice and support. I am glad to say that re-assembly went smoothly and the window is now securely installed with the electric regulator mechanism operating correctly.

Just have to finish getting the door locking mechanism problems cured. I had them checked for correct operation again and again. All sorted, closed the door, locked it and found that it had gone into deadlock mode again. At least I had not been stupid enough to refit the door card and trim. I have made no attempt to trace the problem again. That can just wait until Monday!

I'd check the cable between the lock and the handle isn't over adjusted.

Will do. It was one of the things I had wondered about but, glad you have confirmed the idea.

Cheers!

Id bet outer cable is one thread too tight - same thing happened mine after i replaced the mechanism. Literally 1mm more slack into the cable and its been fine since!

Usually happens after a body shop repair.
