Fabia vRS Project car - Sold

Featured Replies

Since changing lifestyle and moving over to a fully electric car, I'm now parting with my long term Fabia which turned into a bit of a project car.

There's a thread tracking its history here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/269930-xavs-original-fabia-with-a-new-lease-of-life/ when I initially bought it off Ross all those years ago :)

Essentially, it's a 2003 Fabia vRS with under 125k miles. It's no longer being used as a daily driver.

Thanks for the offers of part-exchanging, but I don't need another car. This is a for-sale-only :)

From an engine point of view, it's quite a beast :D

  • 1.9 PD ASZ engine
  • GTB2260 turbo
  • Large Airspeed FMIC
  • Reworked ported cylinder head
  • Race cam
  • Bosio +120% nozzles
  • Sachs motorsport organic clutch and pressure plate (still on original DMF).
  • Milltek exchaust fully decatted with new large downpipe
  • Eibach springs
  • Koni FSD dampers - rear left needs refurbishing - oil leak.
  • Front powerflex bushes. I have the rears too which I haven't fitted.
  • Brand new 6 pot D2 racing front calipers with 330mm disks. Post here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/347564-d2-k-sport-6-pot-330mm-brake-kit-photos/ Fitted with Ferodo DS2500 pads.
  • 17" Audi TT Comp allows in anthracite. They fit directly on to the hub, clear the brakes with no spacers.
  • Seat Sport front upper ARB
  • Jabba rear lower ARB
  • Depo HID lights
  • Cruise Control
  • Recent service, cambelt a year or so old, etc. Just replaced cam shaft sensor (frequent problem).
  • New windscreen
  • It has a sound system which I need to take out, but will leave RCAs and 4 gauge wiring in place so pre-wired should you want to add your own.

The bad bits:

  • It's not the tidiest from a bodywork perspective. A few knocks here and there, which reflects its age. Rear spoiler has lacquer peeling off.
  • The interior is a little grubby too.
  • The aircon has a slow leaking condenser. When gassed, it works fine, but AC starts diminishing performance after a few weeks. One that was on my to-do list I didn't get round to doing.
  • Heat flap sensor for cabin heater occasionally goes wrong. Common problem.
  • The front passenger door sometimes doesn't unlock. Common problem.
  • One of the rear Koni dampers appears to have developed an oil leak.

I'll take some pictures and post them up over the next day or two.

It's difficult to price a car like this, there aren't many like it. There are over £5k worth of mods...

I guess it's a car that won't appeal to everyone, but for those who wish to embark on a serious project, this is an excellent platform to continue with.

£2,995

Car is located in Berkshire. MoT till 22nd October.

One of the originals. Good luck with the sale.

The original Fabia beast shame

Would love to have a play with this especially now doing the turbos but to high for me :(

Thanks Ross. Edited to add Kruise Kontrol still works a treat ;)

Car is running around 2.2 / 2.3 bar boost.

With the big nozzles, it's also a car that needs to be driven quite hard from time to time to keep the injectors clean otherwise over time, they do soot up a bit. Long commuting trips along the motorway, whilst still getting between 55-60mpg isn't really good for the burning efficiency and the first few wot accelerations produce a bit of smoke. I'm saying this from experience and being honest :) Providing you give it a good thrashing every now and then, it purrs like a kitten and pulls like a train.

I haven't picked the car up from Bobby yet hence the lack of pictures. The cam shaft sensor was intermittently playing up so I've changed that for peace of mind.

Wow!

looks like an amazingly built car and good history aswel (being 2 enthusiasts / slightly OCD previous owners)lol

If I have a chance to come see this soon and see how it drives I will certainly have more than just an unhealthy attachment to this.

(Btw are you bringing this to the national meet ?)

I'm hoping it will have sold by then. It's currently insured only till the end of the month and if I can make it to the meet, it will be in the tesla :)

Any pictures of it currently? Think more of where you say the odd knock here and there.

Hi Xavier, I've PM'd you regarding the car, not sure if you've seen it. Cheers

I should be picking the car up tomorrow and will try to get some photos up.

CF87, replied to your PM. :)

Has MoT till 22nd October.

Looking forward to pics. Would also like to know about the bodywork.

Rear left Koni damper probably needs refurbishing. It looks OK (apart from some oil), but rattles on bumps.

I forgot to mention the car currently has a pretty high end sound system which I need to take out, as it's probably easier me selling seperately or on talkaudio (Rainbow components powered by a Sinfoni 90.2 I think and a custom made Genesis 12" sub in a specifically designed box powered by a power performance art amp).

Oh and I'll retain the private plate :) Original reg is KE53LXZ which I guess will go back on the car unless someone wants to put another plate on it?

  • Author

Made a few corrections to the original post. Forgot to mention cruise control :)

As said, this is one of the originals :)

Always was a decent source of inspiration, and it's continued to develop - best of luck with the sale Xav

Sold pending :) An era ends, a new one begins )

Looks like it's back up for sale. Chap on Facebook said he was buying, coming to pick up today, gave him my number and had no news, so doubt he's coming.

Put the original plates back on. New V5C has arrived, so ready to go.

A few more photos:

Driver's seat a little grubby. Others are in good clean condition considering age.

Wiring in the boot for some extra amplification which I've taken out.

4-way RCA feed from the head unit, 4 gauge +12V and ground, remote 12V...

i-MnJD6V5.jpg

I had a false floor to hide it all under, might as well include it as it's a custom fit for the Fabia's boot

i-V8T56rp.jpg

Blocks of wood to support the false floor. They screw into a cut sheet of MDF which slides under the thin OEM carpet.

I already know the answer to this but I will ask anyway. Don't fancy a silver Fabia vRS px and £1500 your way?

Thanks Matt, but not looking for another Fabia at the moment. :) Free bump FWIW :)

Bump for the weekend.

Please note the car won't be insured to drive from some time next week as I need to transfer my NCD to the new policy.

I really want this. Gathering the funds is proving difficult at the minute though. Do you know what's causing the central locking issue? How would you fix the heater flap? I'm assuming the dash needs to come out?

  • Author

Hi Matt,

Central locking is just the front passenger door which sometimes doesn't unlock. It happened a while ago to the rear, but that seems fine now, and it's more the front that's playing up. It's intermittent. I think the problem is related to the locking module in the door. I think Jason changed his rears a while ago and it's a common problem with the shared part across the VAG range I think.

Heater flap is intermittent again. You can clear the problem with VCDS. I know Stu had this and wrote a guide to changing I think, but that's a while ago. I can't remember whether the dash needs to come out, I thought it didn't. Again, it's a common minor niggle apparently.
