My dad had a Vauxhall VX 4/90 (twin Stomberg 2300) which went well

The Viva had surprisingly good front suspension and steering - twin wishbone

I had the 1256 Viva which I px for the VX4/90, loved that car especially as it had a six speed gearbox (overdrive in third and fourth) and it would let you know when the gear box oil was getting low as the overdrive would stop working. :D .

  • Yes, my Superb is proving very unreliable. OK so I had to have a front foglight in it's early life, but since then I'm appalled that a number plate lamp bulb has failed.

  • I haven't even done that - though the rear blade is a bit streaky!  I shall demand a warranty repair off these crazy German mismanaged Czech charlatans!!!     I've been told I may need to change my

The OHC slanted 4 pot was bad in respect that the cam cover gasket leaked onto the exhaust manifold and smelled bad....

On the sloped vx 4/90 engine I remember lunching many an ignition lead due to the proximity over the exhaust manifold

We had a Viva HB 1256. I remember panels in the floor that popped out because of corroded rivets, when you went through a puddle.

We also had a chevette. Basically an opel with the viva engine put in. Dreadful car which basically self destructed. Rust and general failure. At one point the gear lever broke in half and I had to drive it with a 2 inch stub.

I know what you mean about that slant engine, it was also used in the CF vans. Always leaked, the harder you tried to stop it the worse it got. Impossible to adjust the tappets because they had a wear groove that didn't line up when adjusting. If you think it was bad in a car, try doing anything when cylinder 3 is actually under the dash / windscreen.

So close to getting shot of this commie-riddled piece of cabbage stew. A puncture...I know... A god-damn puncture can you believe... AND on the NSF too. So there you go.... Only done 200 miles, so it's so obviously a conspiracy.. Found a Czech screw in the tread - a commie had obviously screwed the red-thread into the tyre... Had to spead £18 on a repair. £18!!!! Sheesh.. It's gottago...

yes same here! iv just had a warning light come on my car! took into the garage and they said it was a screw in the tyre! a screw! who puts a screw in a tyre I said! daft idea putting them in tyres as it lets air out. so he agreed to take it out and replace with a rubber bung, but still cost me to do this. so be aware when getting new tyres that they don't come with air releasing screws. Bet this this was another Skoda idea! simply clever my arse!!!
