Android Auto head unit

Featured Replies

Hiya,

My fabia 3 is one of those with Mirrorlink and no AndroidAuto or SmarkLink - it's proved to be pretty useless with any phone i've plugged in to it. What aftermaket head units do we have to choose from? Do Skoda sell any? Can anyone recommend any please?

Thanks in advance.

I'm sure someone on here fitted one. But you'd lose the stuff in the 'Car' settings page, which might be problematic. MirrorLink does work OK with some Android phones- I've tried it with my Samsung S7 Edge. There are Spotify apps and a satnav one too.

Also curious about the After Market Android Auto systems.

But so much functionality is on the Skoda head unit, this might be a massive pain. No idea if there is even a potential solution to this.

I've just thought- I'm sure someone had something where holding the 'Media' button flicked it over to an Android system that used the stock touchscreen, but you could run regular Android apps. Same sort of idea as the Kenwood aftermarket Satnav one.

Thanks - so have you tried Google Maps? If so does it work whilst in motion?

Google Maps doesn't over MirrorLink, no. IIRC the satnav one is called Sygic.

Gah. Makes you wonder what the point of MirrorLink actually is! Thanks for the satnav alternative; I notice they've got some heavy discounts on offer at the moment!

Well, I think it's more that Google want you to use their solution, rather than someone else's. Same reason why Android Auto only has Google Maps, and Apple CarPlay only has Apple Maps.
