A few bits that might need doing

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been cleaning my Fabia MKII today, after a few miles, about 3K since I last cleaned it so feeling a little guilty! :notme:

I noticed today both rear bump stops had gone today. Is this a DIY job? Frustrating as I'm sure they were ok last time I checked, although the car has been laden on a few occasions and done quite a few miles recently. Its currently on 50K.

I noticed two of my alloys are starting to corrode too, very annoying as it hasn't done many miles really. I guess its more down to the fact its 7 years old. Does anyone have any neat fixes to keep them going or should I just get them blasted at some point?

Does anyone have any neat tricks to get tar off? I am a bit limited on time, I used WD40 on an Octavia to do it although this took me hours to apply, remove the tar, and then polish. The last time I had a car that was plastered with it I took it to a valet place to get it removed which cost about £60.

Just niggles, though it annoys me when I clean the car and find stuff wrong!

My rear drums now need painting too! :(

Cheers in advance for any thoughts of fixing that lot quickly!

little bit of petrol on kitchen roll (wear gloves if you have sensitive skin) to get the tar off, or one of the expensive proprietory tar removers

Thanks Bluecar1, is it worth polishing the paintwork afterwards?

yep, as it will likely strip any polish of as well as the tar

Many thanks

I would buy a bottle of Iron X spray it on watch all the contamination turn purple, wipe off and wash!

Then maybe fire a few coats of polish & wax on

Hammerite - Smooth from Homebase or B&Q for the drums/brakes

I'm going to tackle a rear bump stop on my wife's Fabia, looks pretty easy- case of remove wheel, use axle stand, use jack to relieve tension on damper and remove bottom damper bolt and two upper bolts (found inside wheel arch) withdraw damper and dismantle for new bump stop. Believe an offset spanner is required to release nut to allow removal of bumpstop. It's been suggested bolts should be renewed and torqued with the car resting back on its suspension but I don't know how I'm going to do that! Will have to do it with wheel off.

Thank you both - A9X SJ and Black vRS Oct.

I think I will be able to tackle the drums when I get a chance, just time at the moment is the big problem!

I will be interested to hear how you get on Black vRS Oct as I have plenty of tools to tackle jobs and used to do a lot on my cars.

Yeah done it easy, pain in removing plastic wheel arch to get to both upper bolts. I also used car jack under rear arm to relieve the tension whilst removing bottom bolt
