are seat belt buckle covers replaceable

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to car DIY, so I apologise in advance for any silly questions!

The plastic seatbelt buckle covers/housing have been broken on several of the assemblies in my Fabia TSI 1.2. I don't really fancy having to replace the whole assembly for a piece of plastic, but at the same time, I couldn't find anyone just selling the housing, so I had two questions...

1.) Are the housings replaceable by themselves (i.e. is there a safety reason that they are not sold separately)

2.) Are the buckle housings largely generic between different Skoda's of the same age e.g. could I use the housing from an Octavia?

Thanks in Advance!

...Not quite an answer to your question but you can buy covers, that simply fit over the seatbelt housing, in order to make it look more attractive. Some might be chrome, others just a different look. This MAY solve your issue easily and cost effectively, if that is the criteria. Try eBay or aliexpress, although the latter takes longer to arrive usually as they are mostly Chinese companies. Glue yours back together and cover the lot up!

Thanks mrgf,

That is helpful. I did look at those, but apparently, I need the actual housing to pass the MOT when it comes up otherwise that would be a great solution. I might well do that anyway - to stop the same thing happening next time!

Source from a breaker?

Thanks Ken,

That is what I have done in the end (via ebay), but had to get the whole assembly still. I would have thought that it was a fairly common occurrence and the housing should just be a clip together piece of plastic but maybe not.

Appreciate the help.

Does not matter for MOT as long as the seatbelt is functional, ie latches and un-latches via the red button. You could simply tape the housing together for the MOT, I know it seems crazy but thats the rules.

Thanks Panzer, That is helpful to know. I will go back to the garage about that.
