OCTAVIA MK1 REAR AXLE HELP NEEDED!

Featured Replies

Hey all need some help with my octavia mk1 tdi 2002 currently it has rear drum breaks which are getting poor as the drums are very worn out and drums are quite dear  i've recently been offered a whole complete axle from an audi a3 roughly around the same year but 1.8 petrol with rear disc brakes for £50 i was wondering would the axle fit my octavia or will i have to modify it i no i can just change calipers over etc but my current axles rear bushes are also not great so if the a3 axle would of fitted i would just put new bushes into that as it wouldn't leave me without a car for a day or so. would be great if it does as then it will be just a matter of bolting the fresh axle up into my octavia any help much appreciated thanks all

A3 will fit and if it's coming with callipers is a great price at £50. The only other things you will need will be handbrake cables as the drum ones won't fit. You should be able to use the ones from the A3 though, or just get new as their not expensive.

thats fantastic thanks simspj yea i thought 50 was a good price myself considering the price of new drums o yes i see id need new cables is right i didn't think about that lol what rear bushes are the best as ive heard theres quite a few cheap stuff that lasts no time thanks again kind regards gordon

If you can afford them Powerflex are the best to go for or if not then OEM or very similar.

that's great thank you for your help much appreciated

Never tried Powerflex on the rear, but did try them on the wishbones, and within a year had to replace them, so went with Superpro all round. Nearly 6 years and they're still as tight as a drum. Rear beam bushes were a bit of a pig to remove though, but it's a lot easier with the axle away from the car.
