JD Power 2016 - good news for Skoda (and the Yeti)

Data from the companies that provide or underwrite warranties makes for interesting reading. Only really applies to vehicles over 3 years old though, and not much data on sample size:http://www.reliabilityindex.com

It's the post warranty period that interests me for obvious reasons.

Now a yeti  owner, great car. (and i am a fussy old B******D)

Our first Yeti never saw the dealer apart from a scheduled service in the whole time we owned it. Our new L&K went back immediately as I felt the tracking was our slightly (and it turned out I was right). I have to say, I just feel the new car hasn't been screwed together with quite the level of diligence as our previous one. Things like a slight rattle coming from the rear seat area on poorer road surfaces. However - time will tell as its early days.

I've just ordered SWMBO another Yeti. She had a 1.2TSI Elegance on 60 plate and it was exceptionally reliable for the three years we kept it. The only issue was a recall on the turbo shim.

The Mk3 vRS hasn't been so reliable so she's happy to be going back to a Yeti.

This time round it's a 2.0TDI 150 4x4 SE-L with added toys. This survey from WhatCar just reinforces our good experience with this particular model.

Forums are the same everywhere. People will always seek out a place to seek advice on a problem or to just have a rant/moan. This will always skew the overall ratio of people with problems, and the folk who have great cars but are here to get advice, look for information or just to be sociable.

No matter what the make or model, there will ALWAYS be problematic vehicles rolling out of the factory.

This is the Skoda Press Release,

ŠKODA Second Time Most Dependable Car Brand in Great Britain

18.7.2016 | category: Company

› ŠKODA dominates overall ranking in J.D.Power study for second consecutive time

› The Czech car manufacturer surpasses the second one by 13 points

› ŠKODA FABIA and ŠKODA YETI receive highest accolades in respective classes

› Survey conducted among 13,000 owners of one to three years old vehicles in Great Britain

Mladá Boleslav, 18 July 2016 – ŠKODA is again the most dependable car brand in Great Britain. The result was confirmed for a second consecutive time by the J.D.Power market research company‘s 2016 study. Moreover, ŠKODA YETI and ŠKODA FABIA top the ranking in their segments.

The renowned ‘J.D. Power UK Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS)’ took place for a second time in 2016. The study focuses on cars registered by their owners between the years 2013 and 2015, which means the vehicles are now 12 to 36 months old. J.D. Power collected responses from more than 13,000 original car owners around Great Britain, inquiring about problems they had experienced with their vehicles in the past 12 months. J.D. Power examined 177 problem symptoms divided into eight categories including engine and transmission; vehicle exterior; driving experience; displays and controls; infotainment; seats; air conditioning and vehicle interior.

Ranking of the VDS study is determined by the number of problems specified per 100 vehicles, with a lower score reflecting higher quality. With only 66 points ŠKODA leads the ranking, surpassing the runner-up by 13 points. The Czech car manufacturer thus beats its own result from last year by 11 points. The overall average for all participating brands is 113 points.

In addition, excellent quality of the ŠKODA cars convinced also owners in individual car segments. ŠKODA FABIA received the highest award in the small car segment while ŠKODA YETI dominated the compact SUV category. ŠKODA OCTAVIA rounded off the overall result for the brand with second place among compact cars. Second largest sales market in Western Europe and fourth largest market in the world, the British Isles are of key importance for ŠKODA

I wonder if Škoda UK knows this.

I wonder if Škoda UK knows this.

Agreed. It does make interesting reading as over the last few months the year on year sales as declared by Skoda have shown growth everywhere except the UK! (With Germany being the biggest market and growth.). The venerable Yeti gets good comments.

I would imagine Skoda UK are like a sibling bleating for more from the parents.

Post Brexit has the relationship changed I wonder.

Either way they are blamed for everything I guess.

I was stuck behind a defunct 16 plate Evoque the other day, none of the 9 gears wanted to have a go & the electric parking brake wouldn't release because the smartbox of many neutrals wouldn't make a decision, so we couldn't even push it out of the way! It was the 3rd time it'd happened to him so I did feel for the bloke, but at the same time I did have a wry smile as I toddled off in my old 80k Yeti! Mind you, this's probably cursed mine now!!
