Auto aircon

Featured Replies

The Auto part of the auto aircon turns off if any one button or more of "screen", "face level" or footwell area are pressed and lit up.

If there is no auto aircon with the vents open how is the air - "conned"?

My Octy 2 wouldn't let aircon work without at least one vent open.

My understanding is when on auto the car will send air through all the vents. By pressing one of the buttons for face, feet etc you are making the decision on where the air is directed only and thus removing the cars auto feature.

Whether the car varies the percentage of air through each vent I'm not certain.

As above, also if you manually change the fan speed.

In Auto it adjusts the vents - if your screen needs demisting it will send more air to the screen, in winter it will be warm air to feet and screen, in summer cold air to the dash vents etc.

The system's clever enough to control the vents so as to best get the cabin to the temperature you've selected. I just leave mine on "auto" and a/c "on" all the time.

Yep, Auto means just that, it does it all, you set the temp press Auto and leave it to work

It also has very nice features like closing the dash vents when starting so you dont get a slug of cold or very hot air in the face before the system has had chance to start controlling the temperature.

e.g. in Summer when the air Inside the system gets very hot, it wont blow from the dash vent & the fan speed to the others is low until the engine has run a few seconds & the AC system has started to do its job.

This is something which annoys the hell out of my on the BMW - getting blasted in the face with hot air at full fan speed before the AC compressor has even been engaged...

Thanks for the info. I thought mine was broken when it took a while for cold to start flowing again. But makes sense now.

To be honest, I'm astonished at just how "clever" the whole system is. Not just the air-con/climate, but the way the whole car's various bits communicate to each other and how much technology the latest models contain. Admittedly, our vRS is approaching "top of the range" when it comes to standard equipment, but stuff like headlights that can adapt for continental driving at the press of a button etc. just stagger me!  :D

Yup, it's all very clever until it goes wrong  :D Then it's big money to man with computer.

That's what a warranty is for .......
