What type of oil?

Featured Replies

Yeah, going to have to get back to skoda a see what they'll do.

It's burning 0.5 litres in 500 miles at the moment, not good!

Thankfully the car's not being driven much of late.

I used Shell Helix Ultra 5w40. Bought some for a interim service from Opiel Oils (i think) and they had 4L + 1 free 1L bottle and pouch for £28 delivered. :notme:

Last night over 400 miles of mostly Motorway i had the indicated oil temp a few times up at about 98*oC, (warm night.)

but mostly it was around 90*oC or below, and on the 60 MPH average camera stretches below 80*oC.

53 MPG indicated over a 30 mile stretch sticking to 60mph on cruise control.

Asda 5w 40 FS to VW 502 00 around £16-£20 for 4 litres depending on the offer on in different stores.

(Gold Container.)

I highly recommend this oil for a Twincharger.

That's good going mine normally sits at 90 degrees and nice fast B road about 105 degrees but have the new oil to put in and try. You rave about the asda oil

Had the vRS serviced this week and, deep breath, Fuchs Titan GT1 Longlife 3 was put in.

Since then I've noticed the oil is running a few degrees lower than before.

The oil i was recommended by a Skoda main dealer for my vRS was 5w 40. Bought it from the main dealer directly think i paid about £9 +vat for 1L.... Mines a 2013 and i must say it doesn't burn the oil as quick with the 5w 40 in there

Since having that oil in your car, has it improved oil consumption and does it still run at a low temp?

The oil temperature seems to run a little lower than other oils I've put in - Shell Helix, Mobil ESP, Castrol Edge and Quantum Longlife and consumption hasn't changed from the "accepted" use of the CAVE engine. Thankfully, my engine seems to be one that was not adversely affected by high oil consumption anyway.

Thats good to hear that you have one of the good ones! :)

I had an oil change in July using Shell Helix Ultra 5w40 and since then I have done almost 1100 miles and the dipstick is showing a drop of roughly 25%. When mine gets up to temp the oil temp will be about 92c. Is yours lower than that?

I've not seen a reading much over that for a while though I've not had a, ahem, "spirited drive" for a while! Of late, it seems to be in the late 80s - early 90s.
