Auto headlights way to eager!

Featured Replies

Hi all

Not sure whether to mention this when the car goes into the dealer in a few weeks or not but...I leave the headlights on auto all the time. I see no real reason to do anything different.

However, they're way too eager!

It seems like once they're on, they're on. I was driving around in the blazing sunshine yesterday with my lights on. I mean, it's not a problem, as such, just wondered if everyone's were like this, or whether I'm carrying a glitch?

Cheers,

Alex

Mine seem to come on in the sun a lot, there are 3 options to alter them in the car settings on the touch screen, can't tell what difference they make though. Any thoughts

I have mine set to 'Early' and they work really well.  Having them on in bright sunlight is a very good idea.

You can change the sensitivity in the infotainment.

Agreed, any of the settings don't seem to make any difference!

I've only had my mark 3 for a week, so not too sure how it's going to behave, but my mark 2 regularly did this. However, since it never failed to turn the lights on when it was actually dark, I didn't worry!

Maybe the sensor decides that visibility is not ideal. Bright sunshine doesn't always mean excellent visibility.

I would agree mine are just as sensitive. However, I've never seen in the cars system where you can change the sensitivity, can you advise please as there may be a raft of menu choices I am missing out on :-)

Thanks

CAR > Settings > Lights.

There was a thread on here a while ago about a similar thing.

If i remember correctly it seemed to be related to the angle of the sunlight striking the sensor.

Maybe it was from a couple of guys in Scandanavia during the summer, I cant quite remember, I'll see if I can find the thread.

It seems this has been an "issue" for along time now on the MK2 Octavia and Superb etc.

I think the conclusion is that they're meant to come on in certain bright sunshine conditions.

I wonder if, like the MK2, you can adjust the sensitivity further with VCDS.

I have a Polar-FIS+ and this allows me to fully adjust the light and rain sensitivity.
