Worth upgrading a Mk1 octy to Mk2 with high miles?

Featured Replies

I've been driving my 2001 mk1 1.9 115bhp tdi for 6 odd years now with minimal fuss and sitting with 198,000 on it. Its starting to feel alittle tired but nothing major but have the itch to change.

Seen a mk2 06 2.0 sport 170bhp for £1500 with 175,000 on the clock, drives like a dream, interior is like brand new with a few bits of rust forming on the outside along the arches and bottom of doors and some lacquer cracking on the bonnet.

I know very little about the mk2 so would like some advice from the in the knows here. Better to stay with the 1.9 or go with the 2.0 where I hear conflicting reports of engine issues etc.

Thanks :)

I wish I had kept my Mk1.  Its not that I don't like the Mk2 but it just doesn't seem as well made as the old one was.  Mine is rusting to where as I didn't have any on the Mk1 after 13 years and 160,000. I believe it's still going now as it has an MOT (current mileage about the same as yours). Either way, both are better than my Renault Scenic!

I have had a mk1 & mk2 octavia vrs, both were petrol,i really like my mk2 & the mk1 was ok,out of the 2 cars you have mentioned i would keep the mk1,i would not spend £1500 on a car with 175000 miles on it,you know the condition & history of your mk1 & if it has no major problems you could get a couple more years motoring out of it. £1500 is way to much money for a 10 year old octavia with 175k on the clock & rust & bodywork issues.
