DIY Cruise Control

Featured Replies

Someone mentioned the DIY Cruise Control in another thread..

Speaking to my dealer, he reckons he can fit the the cruise control stalk from a Passat and then plug it into the loom on the car and enable it..

Does this sound the right way of doing it? Anyone got any tips on actually doing it and anyone got VAG-Com to enable it?

Paul..

Have a look in the Car DIY Information section of our web links where you will find 2 excellent guides to retrofitting cruise control. The parts are available from a VW Dealer at very modest cost or, if you want fitting instructions as well, APR can provide a similar kit + instructions for a bit more.

Short answer: Yep

Long Answer: sounds about right...stalks are all vag items, I think mine had a vw sticker on the sheath, although I might be imagining it.

Operation is basically:

Add wire to loom between steering and ECU

Remove wheel, stalk, add new stalk, plug in.

Add cables to ECU connector, enable via VAG-COM.

Replace bits.

Depending on which part of this wonederful island you live on, I can enable it for you with Vag-Com. (all usual disclaimers apply)

Having taken a look at the instructions on the MK4 site above, I note there is a little more work if a Golf has ESP - is this the same on an Octavia with ASR/ESP whatever its' called?

No more work as such - you just need to be more careful that the steering wheel and sensor are re-fitted in exactly the same position.

Yes, this will apply to an Octavia with ESP but probably not ASR as this does not have a steering angle sensor.
