HeadLight unit scratches

Featured Replies

Dont really pay attention to this details much, but today after 2 years of owning a car, I noticed I have several larger scratches (~2 cm in size) on my headlight plastics. This is still minor percentage of the surface being affected, but over time it could add up. They looked like dirt but under finger you can feel the abrasion. Not really sure where this comes from. I dont wipe the car with any towels after car wash, I just use car miniwash without any special cleaning liquids. And obviously there were no contacts with the car in that area. Could this be caused by some bugs disintegrating on the lights?

Cant really see much from the picture though:

I realize this may need polishing at one time, but I think its not the time yet because polishing removes headlight uv protection layer. I am more interested in how this happens in the first place, in other words is this something wrong in my washing  / handling routine or its simply a normal effect of weather conditions etc...

Uv protection? Just whack on some spf 50

Is it some sort of pitting or bubbling in the plastic?

No, its only a surface scratch of some sort, not sure how to describe it.

When travelling at 60mph it doesn't take much to scratch plastic.

Small stones, sticks, ice, litter, anything with a sharpish edge really.
