road noise/insulation

Featured Replies

Reading many blogs on the Octavia sound insulation and how bad it is, i have found no problems with my 2016 2.0 ltr diesel estate, have they finally addressed the insulation problem, lack off, granted i am on 16" velorum with continental eco 5 tyres, i find the car to be of a premium feel and sound, hardly any road/tyre noise .I have driven my neighbours audi A4 avant 64 plate on 17" rims, we have concluded the octavia Estate is no worse, i think better ,is there anyone still having problems with the newer models

No issues with my new vrs tdi 4x4, no worse than my old 2012 audi s3 for road/wind noise, and no booming either.

I think there was another recent thread mentioning some thicker carpet in the new model year.

Also those 16" wheels with a chunky sidewall will help. You'll probably find most of the complaints come from VRS owners with 18/19" wheels and sports suspension.

My MY2016 VRS with 19"s is really bad on some surfaces (course or high grip/unfinished tarmac), "ok-ish" on most and great on motorway.

I am putting some dynamat in this month and getting a wheel alignment done in the hopes of taming it. Also eyeing an early replacement of the P-Zero tyres for som Goodyear F1 AS2 if I can find a decent deal, but decent rubber is bloody expensive here in NZ.

is there an option to dynamat that cost less? doing the trunk and wheel arches will be expensive.

There is a bunch of off-brand stuff you can get which probably does 80% of the job for 50% or less of the cost! Not sure of the options in Norway, but if you search on Amazon you can normally find a bunch of variants.

JayCar electronics here in NZ sells their equivalent much cheaper, along with sound absorbing foam..I am sure you can find something similar in your area.

I don't have much first hand experience, but the consensus seems to be that the sound deadening works with the cheap stuff, but the cost saving can be evident in other areas such as the strength and longevity of the adhesive along with things like a strong chemical smell with some alternatives which can permeate the car for a while...

In my experience, the fitting of the OE boot mat and having a full size spare wheel helps.  Not to mention getting rid of the Bridgestones.....................................

Mine came with the mat and the space saver spare...I dread to think what it would be like without them!
