My Mk1's 15th Birthday Today 01/08/2016

Featured Replies

On this day in 2001 My Octavia first hit the road and 15 years / 60739 miles later she is in pretty good nick still. I have owned it for 11 days shy of 2 years and it is set to likely become the longest I have ever owned a Skoda or a car before.

Digital birth certificate of sorts (not my reg):

So for it's birthday it got a little treat freshening up the only visual part that really let it down, it's crusty looking factory windscreen. Nothing to do with the fact that I may have broken the windscreen the last time I changed the pollen filter and that it's booked in for MOT next week..... :

I had booked it to go into National Windscreens after I finished work this morning and likely fall asleep in the corner of their workshop on the customer chair, but they called this morning to say that no one would be on site to fit it as all out on the road today and offered to come to me for no additional charge. So I did one home after work and did the gardening. Since it's me I had to wedge the gopro in the window above the cars upstairs for a bit of time lapse action of this generous birthday present.

Happy birthday to the Green Goddess

I only have to wait until November for mine's 15th Birthday haha! Although I've owned mine for 6 years now, so I guess I beat you there :D

Again, I would say that, overall, it's the best car I have ever owned! But she is getting a little tired and showing her age now at 170,000 miles....can't bear to part with her though!

6 year ago I had another Mk1 Fabia vRS still, then an Octy one and a few random run arounds between cars to end up with this one as a barn finds of sorts when it popped up and I just went and bought it a few hours after ad went on Gumtree at other side of country. Got another Mk1 Fabia vRS and intended to sell the green goddess, but it is such a minter, I couldn't justify it going, so kept both :D Just been in this morning for pre-MOT check (MOT on Tuesday) and car needed nothing brake shoes have many years left in them yet had a bit of dust build up that was it. So this years MOT would have cost £0 if it wasn't for £150 for the windscreen :( but it looks all the better for it due to the de-laminating or whatever was going on in the corners of the factory one :) Ironically a year after getting the vRS I am thinking I still really don't need 2 cars and must sell one, the Fabia is the more likely to be sold in my head, but it's mechanically pretty similar in regards to condition and belt kit/pump only 5K miles ago, Octy's I did 20K miles ago....

17th December for mines to reach 15, might give it a Christmas present.

Not entirely relevant as neither Octy nor 15, but you've made me think that my Golf is probably 25 this month.

That's gotta mean new windows all round then? :D

I don't get that?

Sorry, got there now.  Actually it could do with a new windscreen, a previous owner must've had some welding done somewhere under the screen, and there's bits of spatter all over the inside. Had to change a rear quarter window last year when the mower threw a stone at it too...

Happy birthday to the old girl! Got to love a new windscreen, you never realise how scratched and streaky the old one was until you see the world through a new one.

My old faithful 1.4 Octavia was 15 in March owned from new. The only major thing other than servicing has been a recent new clutch. Was driven in France only last year- its still up to fully laden 130kph cruising.

Suppose I ought to treat it to a new cambelt soon????

Might as well if she is due, what mileage has yours done from new in your care?
