When I am slowing down by coasting or lightly pressing accelerator to maintain speed after accelerating in my pre FL Octavia BKD PD140 (mapped to stage 1), I can detect a revving noise from behind/below, almost as you would if the car is still accelerating. Could this be a sign of a blowing exhaust? It's been so long since I had exhaust trouble I can't remember what it sounds like? There is no noticeable dip in performame or fuel economy, or evidence of a stuck throttle, just the noise.

 

Edit: forgot to add no relevant fault codes when I scanned with my VCDS.

 

Grateful for any thoughts?

Get down on your hands and knees and try blocking off the tailpipe with an old cloth or similar while looking for gas leaks along exhaust pipe.

Not sure if it is the same noise, but I had a 'whistle/whine' noise when pressing the accelerator, almost like an echo or 'mirroring' effect.  At the beginning of July this year took the car to the dealer as they had noted a 'possible EGR valve leak' during a service.  Sure enough, EGR Cooler had failed.  Got it replaced and the first thing I noticed, as did my wife, was the whistle/whine had gone.

Thanks guys. Am pretty sure it's not the same noise. It's much less whistle and much more of the rumble you might expect from acceleration. I'll give the tailpipe trick a go when it's drier!!!
