Is my dogbone mount shot?

Featured Replies

Before a mod moves this thinking I've posted in the wrong section because I have an Octavia I'm talking about the Ibiza!

So this morning the Ibiza developed a noise. The noise only happens on initial acceleration and does this in at least 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The noise is difficult to describe, it's not a knock, it sounds a little like gear crunch but it happens when the gears are engaged properly and only for about 0.5s on initially accelerating. I suspect it could be the lower gearbox mount but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it helps in diagnosis it seemed to first occur just after I had done a hard launch.

I know that Neo VR has been through a few of these mounts so hopefully he'll be able to answer.

Eddy..

check the intercooler pipework down the left of the engine, sometimes it can "knock" on the fuel filter housing..

if its not that it could be the dogbone.. iirc they are around 35 quid and are easy to replace.. (3 bolts on gearbox, one on chassis)

because of the way the dogbone on these functions its not easy to visually check if its shot or not..

Col, is it the complete mount that's replaced or just the bush?

The dogbone mount is a 10min job. As soon as you're under the car you'll see it.

Just need to know if it's the complete mount or just the bush like on the Octavia.

When you say dogmount, do you mean the rear engine-mount?

Yes, Mil - thats the one.

It is shaped like a dog bone.

Thought so...had mine replaced once, the nut and bolt snapped (God knows why...!). When it's loose there's this loud clonking noice when you try to shift gears.

If its any use I have a perfectly intact dogbone spare from my Fabia's PD100 days. :) Bushes are fine - I just got a new one for a fresh start with the conversion. (peace of mind and all that) If the Ibiza is the same you're welcome to it. :)

Are they the same on the PD100 and PD130? The online ETKA seems to suggest they are different part number for PD130 (ASZ) is 6Q0199851N what engine code is the PD100?

If they are the same then I'll definetely have it off you.

Im not sure what the difference is.. think the 6-speed box is the issue.

i would get a brand-spanker just to be on the safe side

in relation to your previous question, yes its a full mount...

might be worth checking with powerflex to see if they have anything "uprated".. i sent them my old dogbone back in june to get a uprated item made

Turns out it's the front wishbone rear bushes.

It was demonstrated to me with the car off the ground and moving the wheel forwards and backwards. Mine had lots of play which it shouldn't. This was done on a ramp so I could stand under the car and see the movement within the bush mounting.

I'm booked in for 2 weeks time for the bushes replacing as well as new front discs and pads.

I'm going for standard bushes which are around £5-6 each, powerflex are available but at £20 for EACH bush they are a little pricey.
