KTM drive No 10, Andy Caldecott died yesterday during a crash

at Km 250 in stage 9.

As reported, he died immediately by a broken neck vertebra.

This was the third Dakar Rallye the Australian driver took part.

In respect of his death , the whole stage has been taken out of

the valuation.

Andy Caldecott died at the age of 41 and leaves behind wife Kathey

and daughter Cathlin.

Sad indeed.

Sad to hear that, 2 riders died last year as well, total of 28 deaths over the 23 years the race has been held, just thinking there, I wonder if there would be any way of fitting a HANS-type device (like F1 drivers use) to a biker's helmet to prevent neck injury, I know bikers move their heads about a lot more but surely someone could come up with something, the neck is the obvious weak point that is generally unprotected...
