PCV valve (Ventil)

A few days ago I decided to check the oil level because I do know that my car consumes about 500 ml every 6.000 - 7.000Km. But the surprise came not from oil level, but from oil accumulated on the engine's block at the top right side under the air intake transfer pipe.

 

By looking a bit thoroughly I found out that the pcv valve (ventil - part number 030103175B) was broken thus oil fumes had nowhere to go and that is how explained the oil accumulation.

 

My independent VAG specialist ordered one and replaced it and cleaned the engine. All these cost me 20 euros. I must say that I do not know how long that problem was there but there was no malfunction of the engine nor a flashing dash light.

In order to replace it you need to take the air intake transfer pipe off.

 

I hope you understand the names of the parts, as my English are a bit poor.

Does the broken pipe connect to the engine, and the pipe you are holding in your fingers connect to the airbox?

 

If so, the arrow showing the direction of one-way flow suggests this is a fresh air inlet pipe, not an 'oil fumes outlet' pipe.  As it was broken before the one-way valve though, it would let oil mist out at that point any time the crankcase pressure was higher than atmospheric.

Yes exactly as you say it, and I think you describe better than me the reason why my engine block had accumulated oil at that point. As I already wrote I do not know the proper terminology. Thank you for clearing this out.
