Which 6 speed gear boxes will fit an Octavia 1.8T ?

TT or LCR (do they have a 6 speed box?)

the LCR box makes more sense as its from a FWD car but a lot of other parts are needed such as clutch, flywheel, starter motor, drive shafts, gear linkages and possibly a few other things that i don't know about

I'd be changing the clutch and gear linkage (short shift)

by gear linkage i meant the actual linkage not the lever

although that too might need changing

I need the linkages just to get the vRS box to work in mine - was fun plumbing in the cables and getting them into the cabin. Went the whole hog and just replaced the whole stick assembly.

Both the 180bhp TT (2 wheel drive) or the LCR box will work but you will need new drive shafts as well as all the above mentioned items.

I believe Jabba have the box alone for £250 + VAT

Is there much advantage to the 6 speed? The torque from a re-mapped car is quite broad anyway. It would be a good project, but seems like a lot of money for little obvious gain.

6 speed box is stronger i believe so would be good for more power. i believe final drive is the same as the 5 speed with the middle gear ratios simply being spaced closer. each to their own

the short shift kit would be a bit shorter. from what i can remember the vrs shift is 10 or 15% shorter than a standard mkiv golf (and so probably also normal spec octavia). it was a popular mod i believe to install the audi tt shift part into golfs i believe. i will find a link.

edit: the pd130 6 speed box is apparently quite closely linked to the 400+ bhp/lbsft audi rs gearbox.
